Which PS2 RPG?
Re: Which PS2 RPG?
My opinion: Suikoden III easily. Even my brother, who hates RPGs, loved it.

The Xenosaga series is NOT a direct sequel to the Xenogears, granted there are plenty of references from Xenogears in Xenosaga, and the gameplay is quite different.brunoafh wrote:Wow, I didn't know that. That's really interesting, I was honestly leaning towards Shadow Hearts, and now I think I am even more.Xeogred wrote:I've honestly heard a lot of good things about the Shadow Hearts series, but haven't gotten around to it myself. Apparently it was made by a team of dev's that split from Squaresoft back then, kind of like with Monolith-soft whom went on to do Xenosaga (why isn't that an option?)
As for Xenosaga, I'm not sure if it's something I'm into. Not right now at least. I remember not liking it very much way back in the day at a buddy's house. Being that I'm a big Xenogears fan, I'll probably have to try it sometime though.
You should play ep. I and III of Xenosaga while skipping ep.II, unless you are a completest.
For all JRPG fans, this article from Gamasutra is a MUST read:

Yeah I know. I just feel like I should give it an honest shot sometime since a lot of the same minds are behind it. I want to play Xenoblade much more though.skyknight wrote:The Xenosaga series is NOT a direct sequel to the Xenogears
Re: Which PS2 RPG?
Back to the choices, do you have the first SMT: DDS or not?
With Shadow Hearts, are you referring for the first one only? Or does that include the 2nd and 3rd as well?

Suikoden III and Shadow Hearts are both great
Re: Which PS2 RPG?
No, I haven't played the first Digital Devil Saga. I've never really clicked with the SMT series, so I thought maybe I should try a "better" one. I heard the sequel was a lot better than the first one.skyknight wrote:Back to the choices, do you have the first SMT: DDS or not?

For Shadow Hearts, I was planning on playing the first one first. I'd probably follow up with the sequel sometime if I liked it a lot.
If you're into From's RPGs, then you'll probably like it. I liked it quite a bit. There's less of a focus on weapons fighting than there is in King's Field, you have to rely on magic mostly in Eternal Ring. Being that it's so cheap, I'd definitely consider picking it up if you like the King's Field games and what not.(-_-) wrote:How is Eternal Ring? I always see it and am tempted to grab it.

I've never played any of the king's field games but I just looked them up and I'm kind of interested. I love almost everything From Software puts out so I'm surprised I've never even seen these. If the atmosphere is good in those games I'll probably get hooked on them.
Re: Which PS2 RPG?
If you didn't like the SMT series, then you could go with either Suidoken games and Shadow Hearts - thou most of RPG fans say the second is the best of the three.
Re: Which PS2 RPG?
I think I'm going to give Shadow Hearts a try. Thanks for the insight guys.
