The US federal government might shutdown Friday. WTF?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'm no proponent of illegal immigration but it DOES serve its purposes. For instance, we enjoy a greater standard of living at a reduced cost because of people who are willing to come here (often illegally) to do crappy jobs for low wages. If every fruit farmer, janitor, porter, or laborer got paid a living wage it would be untenable for us to enjoy the lifestyles we do.

When immigrants start burdening society with medical bills or food programs, then you have a problem.

It's a difficult balance to strike, you know?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Another wrong...ah can't remember the word in English. Anyway, on the contrary immigrants always create more jobs. More population = bigger market = more stuff needed to be made = more jobs. France Germany and the UK were helped in their economic recovery in the past 50 years, by the influx of immigrants. There were integration problems, but those didn't have anything to do with the jobs issue.

And if the immigrants are not paying taxes, isn't that the fault of the tax agency?

I am for immigration but NOT illegal. Those low wage jobs were no where to be found in my high school days cause of the illegal immigrants. I am not trying to bring the blame game here trying to make my point.

So why don't you just make them legal?

But SuperAnthony, you are trying to have your cake and eat it too. The process for legally immigrating into the US is long and very costly. Typically, people who LEGALLY come into the country won't desire those jobs that need to be done so cheaply. It's the LEGAL immigrants who actually 'come here and take our jobs' in so far as they go after desirable jobs as opposed to their illegal counterparts who just want a job that will afford them an opportunity to remit their wages home.

Why dont they come here legal? We have a balance system created back in the 60's. Percentage of European, hispanic, african etc. Maybe thats why they are coming over here illegally cause of the wait. I dont know.

I've heard that the wait to become a legal citizen can sometimes take decades.

But theres no taxes being payed by them hence forcing higher taxes on the workers and hence bringing cuts to programs in order to recoup lost money in taxes.
