overclocking the dreamcast

Post by megadethdrumfire »

I heard about several people over clocking their DC does this really help anything run better?

Emulators would probably benefit the most.

Can the DC cooling system keep up with added heat generated by overclocking? Overclocking might be hard on the hardware.

It can be OC'd quite a bit, but it rarely helps any games without causing major issues. Its been proven to help with the load times in Shenmue 2, but not much else. The side effect was the audio flies off pitch, if I remember. The main benefit of OCing the DC is homebrew emulator and media playback performance.

It's sweet for VCD's but other than that their is no reason to do it since most people have DVD players. The only mod really worth doing for the Dreamcast is making it able to read cdrs which is great for when you cant seem to burn an iso properly and you would end up making like 8 coasters

no point, self-booting games are reigon free and he could just use a swap trick. unless he has a non mil DC. that would suck.
