Hehe. That said, I like Squall more than Cloud. I think they're very similar... but Squall actually seems to change and develop, lol.

I honestly never got why people liked Cloud. Squal is whiny sure, but at least we know why. Plus he does warm up in the end like you said.

Cloud for me is a non character. He's almost as bland as Chrono, and Chrono's a freaking mute with 8 sprites of animation (random number)

Cloud ends up thinking he's Zack half the time or something. I always hate hate HATE that part in the game everytime I've replayed it. When you're playing as Tifa in Cloud's mind or whatever.

Seriously everytime I replay FF7 the characters seem to get worse everytime, except for Barret. Cause he had character, haha.

Though seriously, you are right. I honestly can't remember anything making the rest of the cast memorable or likable (the less we mention Yuffie and Cait Sith, the better).

On the other hand Barret had a daughter, his home town was destroyed (damn, the PC demo featured that part of the game, and I remember playing it again and again, and thinking this game will be epic), and of course the duel with his best friend

And yet Cloud thought he was the one who had it bad. Basically he failed in getting his dream career, and went all emo.

Barrett was fucking awesome. Totally should have been the main character. Just like XII would have been a million times better if Balthier, Ashe, or Basch were the main character instead of "I'm here to ensure sales to a certain marketing bracket, gaze upon my nipple-less chest!" Vaan.

You know.....from all the FF games that I've played (6-9, 13 beaten, 10 and 12 got about half way) I don't remember a single time when the main protagonist wasn't overshadowed by some other party member.

FF7:
Barret for people with actual taste, Vincent for teens who want to play it deep.

FF8:
Zell and Quistis seem to be far more likable to fans, than Squall.

Just about everyone

FF12:
Just about everyone number 2, but of course Balthier and Fran <3

Shaz, I cry for the stupidity by Vanille that you have to endure
