Re: Do you follw joystiq.com ?
I can't really stand any one gaming source. IGN, Destructoid, Kotaku, Gamespot, I kind of think they're all crap. IGN is my most hated though. I just use sites that compile articles/news from all of the major gaming sites, like N4G.
I do check Siliconera and Andriasang fairly often though. Andriasang always breaks news first regarding a lot of Japanese games I'm into.

I can see what you mean (especially with Jim Sterling essentially being a troll journalist and their silly meme t-shirts and etc), but the juvenile style of the site has never bothered me. I suppose I've never left that 'teenage boy' stageirixith wrote:I think Destructoid factors into my bottom of the barrel comment because it's very .. teenage boy oriented. Does that make sense? If I were involved with the community there it'd be another matter entirely, but as a news site it's adequate for my needs.

Kotaku, destructoid, and gamespot are the absolute worst. Joystiq and PC Gamer are my preferred two.

Rock Paper Shotgun is about all I read, and that's rarely (not saying there's something wrong with them, I just don't follow gaming news much anymore). I have a lot of friends that play games, so I hear a lot about things through them. And since I focus so much on older consoles, I don't really pay much attention to the latest releases anyway. 99% of what I'm interested in, I'm willing to wait a few more years to play.
Except S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. I want that now.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun is such a great site anyway, you don't need much else if you're a PC gamer. The writing is really, really great, writers are knowledgeable, stories are varied. It's one of the best gaming sites in activity, in my opinion.Ack wrote:Rock Paper Shotgun is about all I read, and that's rarely (not saying there's something wrong with them, I just don't follow gaming news much anymore). I read Destructoid as well, and when I jump from it to RPS it's such a breath of fresh air. I guess I just keep my signature to Destructoid's feed to have that feeling.

Re: Do you follw joystiq.com ?
no, cause it's more news and less features.
I like sites like for their lengthy features.
and for gaming news I follow eurogamer, since they have all the new releases and stuff that are in my interest.
Though I have to say, veeeeeery low intellectual level articles, full of flame bait. I don't know how many times they've rephrased a news title into flame bait, cause they know most people will just run into the comments section, if you give them the gist in the title, without bothering to read what the article says.
Last month, when Iwata said that the industry is dieing, cause developers should make games that are really worth the 50$ asking price, because gamers can get lesser games for lesser prices on the iphone, they just reported "Iwata says iphone games killing the industry".
There was a huuuge flame battle going on, in the Super Mario Galaxy review section, and it got them so many hits, that after it had left the first page due to newer features, they put it back on top (hits hits hits hits hits).
And for some reason, they just want to prove the 3DS a failure. They were comparing the PSP's first week sales (which had huge hype behind it when it was released, those too young to remember what everyone thought of the DS VS PSP battle back in 2004) to the 3DS's first 2 days sales, saying that the 3DS sold less, or saying that sales of the 3DS in Japan have fallen and Nintendo might be worried (no games + biggest natural disaster in the modern history of the country.... hm yeah I'm sure there is no connection).
Besides, best site for news that I care about? This forum

Re: Do you follw joystiq.com ?
I think Joystiq is the only major gaming blog site that isn't annoying. Destructoid is immature and Kotaku is pure garbage. Especially their 'insights' into Japanese culture, which are usually exaggerated misinformation.
Re: Do you follw joystiq.com ?
I've gotten pretty fed up with the gaming blog news sites myself over the last year or two. Kotaku started to really suck a few months ago and it was either them or Joystiq ripping one another off constantly posting the same exact stuff everyday, but then Kotaku had to completely take a dump on themselves with that new layout more recently. Haha, oh boy. That got me to remove them from my quick link favorites.
Destructoid is okay, but I totally agree with you guys about how immature it is most of the time. I also think their Japan section is mindblowingly obnoxious, like... that's typical straight up moe-loving otaku people right there. Horrible.
Joystiq is all I really care to use off and on now consistently, but yeah it gets boring. I think these blog gaming news sites are pretty hilarious sometimes with how contradicting they can be. I mean, I'm no editorial expert or something, but I'll love the once and awhile article about "the state of gaming" or some author dogging on how bad DLC is, then the next day they're posting articles about DLC and other worthless junk like that left and right. Too much irony for me to really respect them.
Rock Paper Shotgun my friend showed me recently, maybe I'll start going there.
I don't go anywhere near places like IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy, or whatnot thesedays. Haven't for years. I loved RPGfan back in the day though.
