I was never a fan of the old cartoon, but I'm just burnt out on the constant remakes. Original ideas are needed now more than ever.
Rehash Examples:
Comic Cartoons (Xmen, Iron Man, etc.)
Thundercats
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Transformers
Inspector Gadget
Astro Boy
Scooby Doo

Re: Someone explain why so many people like My Little Pony now
Wait what they made a new Inspector Gadget?
I generally agree with you when it comes to franchise reboots, even if I liked the 2003 TMNT. I couldn't tell you why they're feeling the need to reboot that show AGAIN though.
Original ideas are in abundance honestly, it's just that they're having a harder time these days selling themselves to the producers. It's a shame, but branding sells. easiest way to get a new show out there is to attach a well-known property to it. Makes it somewhat difficult to write off these shows as 'just another franchise reboot', since you may find something surprisingly fresh under the surface.
Of course on the other hand many are just what you claim, rehash.
And superhero comic cartoons have been a constant for the past severeal decades. They aren't going anywhere any time soon and are hardly representative of some recent fad.

I'm not sure either, but it's gotten kind of scary. Either everybody is hipsters and liking it ironically because herf derf My Little Pony, or the impossible has happened and it's LEGITIMATELY that good.
The new pony designs are a major improvement though. The old ones were kinda chunky >.>

I never stopped liking old animated cartoons.Bradtemple87 wrote:It's the "cool thing" now to like old animated cartoons, people are stupid as hell
Except the ones that sucked, but that should go without saying.
Also, this new My Little Pony is looking a lot better than the old one. Most of the people who do like it actually like it, not some sort of ironic thing. (Although, there are some who like every element of the show, and those who only like it for the incredible animation.)

Like I said earlier, this show is being done by someone who worked on The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. I'd say chances are pretty high that it's a good show.AmishSamurai wrote:...or the impossible has happened and it's LEGITIMATELY that good.
I think the immense popularity is a combination of the show being good and people reveling in the irony of adult males collectively enjoying a show for little girls.

WTF - they have anime eyes now?!
When he was young, my brother was BIG into MLP and collected them and played with them before finally getting into G.I. Joe and Transformers and He-Man like his big brother. I teased him mercilessly about it then, and still bring it up from time to time at his chagrin. I think I'll buy his son some of these new MLP toys for his third birthday in a few months

Yet you like Street Fighter II? That was the most mainstream video game to come out of the 90s other than Mario Kart.Bradtemple87 wrote:Cant stand mainstream fads, never have.

You come out with some good quips from time to time, aaron. I liked this one. Very "meta" (I think saying stuff like this is "meta" is not quite mainstream - yet!).aaron wrote:hating mainstream fads is kind of a mainstream fad, anyway.
Back on topic: when I was young, MLP was *just before* Transformers. This meant that I had to watch MLP (or at least the ending) in order to watch Transformers (we also only had 2 TV channels tops). True story.
I would not mind one bit admitting to like MLP if I did, but honestly if Transformers were before it, I wouldn't have watched much of it. I think I did like the Care Bears though - I didn't like it a lot, but I vaguely remembering liking it.
