Luke wrote:What is this, "Attack of the Clones:Rehashed (without a sexy Portman sporting a skin tight, stomach reveling suit)"? I mean, did anyone even look at how awful the cgi on the corps looked? Awful (although I do hope the pod in the opening sequence was inspired by the pod from Earthworm Jim). Plus, the movie has that awful stereotype that all aliens speak with an English accent. And one more thing...If you're over 25 years of age, the pod and the alien and the passing along of a jewel...Does that remind you of anything? It's nothing new; a lot of movies/shows/books/etc. include the same opening where a being crashes down to Earth, near death, and passes on something extraordinary. But holy shit, if this scene of the "purple" alien doesn't remind me of the first few episodes of the second season of the animated TMNT series. If I had the time I'd scan the pictures from the TMNT comic book (Archie series #3 I believe) which did borrow from the GL series, but it feels this time GL ripped off TMNT. Funny how things work out.
I can agree with the CGI. I've had that complaint about movies for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going away anytime soon.

I guess they all copied Green Lantern. Because Green Lantern debuted in 1940. And Hal Jordan himself debuted as Green Lantern in 1959 as did the purple alien you refer to and the passing of the ring.
I'd love to see a Green Lantern movie but this looks like something I'd scrape off my shoe. No substance, lousy effects, and incredibly awful dialogue. The lantern pledge is spoken as if a four...okay, I'll give it some credit. The lantern pledge is spoken as if a six year old was doing the performance. Might as well say "Lantern big, lantern bright, on this lantern I wish tonight." as it is just as effective.
The oath wasn't made for the movie, it's been around for a long time, see the Green Lantern debut date above.
And to be candid, besides the thingy with a beak, where are the boobs? I'm not joking. Where are the boobs? No love interest? I mean, I don't want to wear a ring, but I got a hot chick with boobs that goes along with it. I can't fly with a lousy green cgi shield covering me in front of a green screen shooting fake green stuff, but I'd trade a hot chick with nice boobs for playing a third tier DC character in a movie whose only power is obvious shitty cgi effects any day.
Carol Ferris played by Blake Lively:

I expect very little character growth in this too. In CAP, the trailer has all the character growth (mental and physical) in a minute! CAP will be great, as it also includes a love interest who really puts the two in WW2. CAP the movie looks and feels right. GL looks bland, the same way Thor does (minus Portman. She makes any movie worth seeing...well maybe not the new Danny McBride one). As with Speed Racer, effects don't make a movie for me. Give me some substance. I don't need a story as developed as Driving Mrs. Daisy, but don't give me an action movie with the content of Dude Where's My Car. "Dude gets a ring and becomes awesome" isn't really a story I'm interested in, unless "awesomeness" comes at a price so high that you'll die for it (yup, a nerdy LOTR reference).
Wait, a story about a Corps in space with 100s of aliens battling a universal threat under the guidance of ancient beings somehow equals Dude Where's My Car? And you want an intricate storyline, but just above you were complaining about there not being enough boobs. Which do you want?
Looks like a one star movie at best to me, but that doesn't mean I won't shell out some cash to see it. And don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for this movie. Jordan isn't my favorite GL, but I'd love to see a great GL movie, and the trailer gave me the knee jerk response of "this ain't going to be it". It's not fair to judge a movie by its trailer(s), but as far as judging the trailer, I'd say turn the lantern off and wait for a bat signal.
Right, because we really need Batman umpteen more than a single Green Lantern movie.

But I'm not happy about Ryan Reynolds cast as Hal Jordan, either. Kyle Rayner, sure. But not Hal Jordan. Nonetheless, that trailer looked cool enough for me to try and disregard that.

@Burning Doom:

I can tell by your name, avatar, and sentence breakdown response that this is going nowhere...but:

If you plan on deconstructing my post, read it first. I said the reading of the oath was crappy, not the oath itself. And I'd like a good storyline that also involves women; trust me, both at the same time are possible.

Sorry I misread the oath part. I guess that debunks my entire post that had many other points, GL is gonna suck.

And about the women part, meet Blake Lively again:

Oh, and real nice there making a personal attack over an opinion on a trailer. Real classy.

I'm hoping for a good GL movie, this just doesn't look like it.

And there was no personal attack, I just made the observation your handle is "BurningDoom", your avatar is a pic of GL, and that you did the whole sentence breakdown thingy (which you did again). With those three things in mind, it's obvious you're going to be defensive, which you obviously are.

Now I grew up on DC comics (still own my first comic(s) I ever bought, a three pack of Batman comics from K-B Toys) but I thought Batman Begins boarded on being tedious. Luckily Dark Knight was phenomenal, but that doesn't change the fact my opinion is that Begins was not so great (it hasn't aged well either). And with the GL trailer, until I see the movie, I will judge the movie by the trailer, and the trailer looks like garbage. Now if this was a teaser, I'd cut it some slack, but this is the trailer. 2-3 minutes of the best of the film, and if that's the best of the film I'll pass.
