Great choice if it's gonna be the only one, but why limit yourself?

Yeah, I would have to second Storm of the Light's Bane. It's way better than The Somberlain, and Reinkaos is kind of crap (but listenable I guess). As for At The Gates, I would probably start with Slaughter of the Soul. Very good album, much better than their previous ones.

I wasn't completely sold on We Are The Void at first either, but with a few more listens I began to think it was pretty good. I think Dream Oblivion is pretty good, as well as The Fatalist.

Storm of the Light's Bane. Okay, I'll check that out. Yeah, We are the Void is pretty good but didn't grab me as quickly as Fiction or Damage Done. I think Character was a grower for me too though and I love that album now

Ack will appreciate this. I have to give mad props to Powerglove for actually doing a metal song about the freaking Batman! Granted it's just a cover of the animated series intro and is a bit cheesy, but still. That's pretty awesome. If Jon Schaffer were of the mindset he was in when he created the Dark Saga album I bet he could make a badass Batman song

EDIT:Also, any Ayreon fans here? I love the 01011001 album and the song Love from The Human Equation is one of the best done songs about love I have ever heard. Perfectly captures the experience of it without being cheesy or even going into ballad territory

I'm not a Killswitch Engage fan (at all)... I like Blood Has Been Shed's Novella of Uriel, but the reason I mention this: Have you guys heard Killswitch's brutal cover of Holy Diver, it's good stuff, for a cover of Holy Diver, plus I like that song. Figured the main riff out in a matter of 4 seconds, my drummer and I get a kick out of it every now and then.

yeah it's a decent cover, as far as nu-metalcore bands covering metal classics goes. i can't stand KSE at all anymore. it bums me out because i still like their first record so much.

i feel like this board has talked about killswitch engage so much over the past few months.

How did you like Pitch Black Progress and Holographic Universe compared to Symmetric In Design? It fucking blows my mind that people like the later two albums the same as (or better than) Symmetric In Design. On Rate Your Music, Symmetric In Design and Holographic Universe have an equal rating and Pitch Black Progress has a higher rating!

EDIT: Symmetric In Design has the second lowest score on their Metal Archives Page. Guess I'm in the minority.

Short Answer: Yes.
It was hilarious though because everytime the vocalist shrieked or screamed, I looked around and everyone just hated it. But those shrieks were the best part!
Damn, that sounds like an uncomfortable concert. I like those shrieks too.

Even though I don't think a band's albums should be listened to out of order, I have to agree with this. Whenever I play At the Gates, it's Slaughter of the Soul or With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness occasionally.

 Haven't heard that one before.

Once again, why all the hate for KSE? If it's a personal preference, fine - everybody's got them, but everytime I ask people what their beef with that band is, they can't tell me anything other than "uhh, they just suck!" or my personal favorite - "Howard is no Jesse, man.. Howard is a terrible singer.." It's really trivial.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge thrash, black, and industrial metal fan. I've loved bands like Sepultura, Pantera, Opeth, Emperor, And Oceans..., Megadeth, and At the Gates for well over 15 years now, and I would put KSE close to the same pantheon. Why? They're successful, catchy, and while their songwriting borders on the shallow side, they don't talk about overly violent, blasphemous, or offensive subject matter - which makes them accessible. And THAT'S why people hate on them.

Before I end up typing some huge 3 paragraph response, could you please explain how you feel that Killswitch Engage is even close to the pantheon that Megadeth, Pantera, and Sepultura occupy?

I agree that it all comes down to personal opinion, but that statement seems fairly... absurd. Especially coming from someone that says they've been listening to metal for well over 15 years.
