Kami Retro - iPhone Review

Gameplay
This is a single-screen puzzle platformer. You can complete each level with a varying degree of success. To achieve three stars you will need to collect a certain amount of stars in each level as well as get all your Kamis to the exit. There are three fundamental gameplay elements needed to beat each level.

1. Placement of objects to solve the puzzle.
2. Timing
3. Execution

You have 4 Kamis that you have to get to the exit. Each Kami comes in a timed interval after the first one is started. Each Kami is constantly moving, but you can make him change directions and jump. You will have fans, springs, levers, bumpers, and cannons to help you reach the exit.

Controls
The controls work well. Swipe across your Kami in the opposite direction to make him run that way and swipe up and in the direction you want to jump.

Presentation
The graphics are nice, nothing special, but not bad at all. The game is very colorful and pleasing to the eye. The backgrounds can be a little bit of annoyance. It can be hard to tell what are platforms and what is background design. I also wish Kami was a little bigger. You have to swipe your Kami to make him jump or change direction, so a bigger Kami would make that easier. Also, the objects that you can arrange to help you get through the level could of stood out more. Sometimes they appear to be part of the level.

Comments
Overall a very fun game and well worth the $0.99. It made me think of the Bit.Trip series with the feel, timing, and music. The difficulty curve is a little awkward in this game. You can fly through the first three worlds, but worlds four and five were rather challenging for me.
