Re: Gamestop to stop carrying GBA stuff Apr. 3. What's next?
I talked to a Gamestop employee about this. He said that Gamestop only carries stuff 1 generation back at most, so it was inevitable that this would happen once the 3DS came out. Following this logic, Gamecube stuff won't be discontinued until the Wii's successor comes out. Hopefully.

I always thought that was their policy. Which was why I was surprised when people started saying the PS2/Gamecube games are leaving by the end of the year without so much as even a mention of a new gen of consoles coming and developers insistence of creating new PS2 games. But what do I know. Maybe Gamestop changed their policy and they just don't want to carry them anymore. *shrugs*BoringSupreez wrote:I talked to a Gamestop employee about this. Of course the Gamecube racks (at every location I've been too, anyway) are always so small, I can't imagine them being that desperate for the shelf space. Now the PS2 games on the other hand...

Yeah we haven't seen any proof yet that they are getting rid of PS2 or Gamecube. I think people are just speculating but we will see them hang around for another year at least.

I'm sure they'll keep PS2 at least until they stop releasing new games for it.Purkeynator wrote:Yeah we haven't seen any proof yet that they are getting rid of PS2 or Gamecube. I think people are just speculating but we will see them hang around for another year at least.

Then, shouldn't there still be Xbox games around?BoringSupreez wrote:I talked to a Gamestop employee about this. Never understood why they got rid of Xbox games. I mean, hell, they could have at least held on to the backwards compatible ones.

My local Gamestop got rid of its GCN/GBA stuff a long while ago, pretty typical in Europe I believe. More interestingly though, they're constantly trying to take the PS2 stuff out of rotation, but for some reason, be it demand or spacemaking, it's forever coming back. It's happened a couple of times now, the PS2 stuff would be gone completely, then a week later reintroduced, in a slightly smaller section, but still sizeable enough. Maybe this is their approach to weaning their consumers off last gen tech, Christ knows... It's not the greatest of selections you could hope for, save for a couple of titles, which're then priced out of the market. Say, a boxless copy of Megaman X-8, 14 euro. Ouch.

the policy seems to arbitrary to me. It's not logical. In my opinion PS1 games should still be carried as they can be played in PS3 (current gen) console. Same with XBox games. It just seems logical. But what do I know?BoringSupreez wrote:I talked to a Gamestop employee about this. That's from moving products from one store to another. One GameStop employee told me that they'll ship games to stores that are able to sell that particular product.Balasubbie wrote:My local Gamestop got rid of its GCN/GBA stuff a long while ago, pretty typical in Europe I believe. Well, it was 1 gen back, at most. If they decide that a certain system's games aren't selling well enough for it to be worth the shelf space, they'll get rid of it. I have no idea why Gamecube stuff would be selling better than Xbox stuff though. Maybe the fact that the average GCN game costs more than the average Xbox game had something to do with it, Gamestop makes more money selling a copy of Windwaker than Chronicles of Riddick.the7k wrote:Then, shouldn't there still be Xbox games around?BoringSupreez wrote:I talked to a Gamestop employee about this.
