FFIV: Complete Collection coming to PSP in April!

This is one of those games that I want to play then hear a better/newer version is coming out so wait on it. Then when I get it I hear another version is coming out, so then I wait to play till that one comes out.

I own the SNES version but waited to play because I heard about the GBA one. I eventually bought the GBA version to hear that the DS version was coming out. I bought that one a couple of months ago and now I hear about this version. And somewhere between all that I bought the PS1 version.

You really shouldn't be waiting to play this game. The SNES version is excellent. The PS1 version that followed later is terrible -- weird anime inspired cutscenes (BLEH), horrendous load times .. you'll never hate random battling quite as much as the FFIV/VI/Chrono Trigger PS1 ports.

The GBA version is good. The DS version is awful. Not only is the game using horrid 3D models and presentation, every character moves as if they are coated in molasses and walking on honey. It'll take you twice as long to beat the game as it should (if you can even bear it) because of that alone.

Obviously the FFIV complete collection is the ultimate -- original game, interlude + after years. The remastered widescreen presentation is oh so nice.

If any of you are into the "try before you buy" scene, the PSP version was released to the wild on March 23, and even though it was the Japanese version, it included full English.

Just sayin'.

From what I remember, the PS1 version has very good load times. It's CT that's unbearable.

The hell are you talking about? The PS1 port of Final Fantasy IV has no anime-inspired cutscenes, all it has is a fugly FMV sequence that only plays once, when you put in the disc, and its entirely skippable.

And load times are a total non-issue in the ps1 port of IV. Seriously, they're more-or-less nonexistant. It's not at all like the port of VI.

The SNES version (FFIIus) has censorship, a rough translation, and gimped difficulty. The ps1 version has no censorship, has a much better translation, and didn't mess with the original japanese difficulty.

Sorry, sorry -- I mixed up the awful *DS* cutscenes with the unecessary bland FMV sequences for the PS1.

Still can't believe I went all the way through the DS version. It's practically torture.

FFIV is my favourite RPG of all time, and one of my favourite games ever. The DS version pretty much crushed my soul. I remember trying to go back to it over and over to in vein attempts to justify my purchase, but to no avail. I have many complaints about that game, but chief among them is of course the god awful art style.

I can't wait to play the PSP compilation though. This game just doesn't get old for me, ever. I never finished all of the After Years content, so I'm really looking forward to that.

North Americans are kinda getting screwed over with the special editions.

Here's the Japanese edition:

It has an artbook and a walkthrough. Enclosed with the limited edition is a soundtrack CD called Final Fantasy IV & The After Years Sounds Plus, which includes seventeen tracks, five of which have been selected from the DS version of Final Fantasy IV by fans on the Square Enix Members website.

Here's the European edition:

The European version of Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection comes in a special edition package that features a fold-out box and contains a selection of art cards, a PSP screen cloth featuring Cecil and a new DLC costume for Cecil in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, which is based on the original super deformed artwork for Final Fantasy IV.[8] The special edition will be available at pre-order and on launch.

The NA retail edition:

All NTSC retail versions of the game will contain the product code for the Dissidia 012 DLC for Cecil, and will also include five bonus art cards featuring Amano's character designs.

I will totally buy this at some point, but can you just start at the Interlude and play the After Years, or do I have to play through the entire FFIV game again? I was playing the GBA version, but didn't finish it and I may just wait to get this version if I have to play FFIV again.

I'm seeing a lot of people on other sites thinking that if we get this remake we should be getting a FF VI revision. What do you guys think? The people saying that don't have any concrete proof (it's more like wishful thinking) but I think it'd be a good idea. I haven't played the GBA remake so I've missed out on some extra content and I'd like a higher resolution FF VI.
