What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpful)

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Wow, I've been listening to The Dismemberment Plan and like it thanks to s1mple mentioning it and others talking about it. Also, anyone want to recommend me a good post-hardcore band?

"post hardcore" is such a shitty term to use because people blanket a lot of bands with that term, and a lot of them don't sound anything alike.

are you trying to find stuff like dismemberment plan? that i can probably help with.

Depends on the "post hardcore"
You can get into more punky hardcore stuff, dancy, or dissonant.

Some bands you may want to check out. If you really enjoy Dismemberment Plan, check out Q and Not U, Rahim, Ex Models, June of 44, 90 Day Men, Antelope, Bear Vs Shark, Clikitat Ikatowi, At the Drive In, Cursive, Enon, Jawbox, McLusky, The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, Silkworm...

If you're looking for "post-hardcore" like really dissonant or heavier derivative of punk check out Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, Hoover, Julia, Amber Inn, Daitro, Kerosene 454, Kukim, Lincoln, The Last Crime (LI Love!)...

The list goes on. From like 87-98 there were like 10 million Decent->Awesome bands in that genre. If you're looking for specific stuff just give me a PM. Happens to be one of favorite types of music.

Yeah, I'm more into the punky side of music, I've been listening to Rites of Spring, Mineral, and Lifetime and want to know band similar to those as well. I've only been seriously looking up bands a month ago so I don't know much, yet have decided to do this and get in the scene.

You'd probably like stuff like Sunny Day, Embrace (especially if you like RoS), One last Wish (pretty much the exact same band as RoS), Rain (also very similar band on Dischord records), End of a Year, Cap'N Jazz, Garden Variety, and Ambassador 990.

Also, if you're up for a good read check out "our band could be your life". It's all about early american hardcore and covers a decent selection of bands from black flag to the minutemen. They cover the birth of "Emo" when it was just an offshoot from hardcore.

Even in 1986 people hated the term emo.

Stardust is just lovely. Really a standout ensemble with some really unique players, especially Wilbur Harden on flugelhorn.
