Emulator "Enhancer" and the Emu scene via Macs.

Post by daito_kid »

So, I use a Macbook because I usually don't play games on my computer, but every now and again, I like to play emulators and unfortunately the Mac emulator scene has a monopoly on it by a dude who goes by the name of Bannister, or Richard Bannister in full. In order to get the full use out of the emulators that he develops, he has them all tied to a software called emulator enhancer, an annoying $30 add on that allows basic functionality that can be seen in every free emulator. It's really annoying that this dude is cashing in on the Emu scene when that's not what emulation is about.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? If so, how do you feel?

You can't use NEStopia, SNES9x, or KEGA Fusion?

I tried to set up some emulators on a Mac recently, and it was positively infuriating. Who the hell pays for emulators? Even with the enhancer, the Mac versions of these emulators are woefully unequipped compared to their Windows and even Linux versions.

I don't have a problem with the guy charging $30 for an emulator enhancer, or whatever it is. If you don't like it, then switch to Linux/Windows or develop your own emulator. There are a bunch of open source emulators...try porting them to the Mac yourself.

Never heard of the EMU Enhancer thing. I have MacMame and it runs fine, a great Freeware port! PC Mame 32 is better with its search menus, but the MacMame has a nice add on Front End called MacMame InfoX.

I guess Mac users are used to being charged out the ass for everything. Linux runs on anything, you know.

I've run into the same problem. What you can do is download either a free trial or the shareware version and you can use it, but every time you launch the emulator, a box pops up and it says you can register it, click on maybe later, and it will go away. A bit annoying, but I'm not spending 30 bucks on it.

I don't think this Richard Bannister fellow made Mac Mame. Also Kega Fusion isn't Bannister either, so that's good. I like Kega Fusion alot. I believe the Emulator Enhancer is only for stuff this guy makes.
