FFIV: Complete Collection coming to PSP in April!

I just now looked this game up and lo and behold I missed a 4+ page thread somehow.

I'm really excited about this release. I've always wanted to own Final Fantasy IV but never committed to buying a cartridge and the After Years being included just sweetens the deal.

I understand peoples dislike of re-releasing a port that has been remade and ported and remade and re-released ad infinitum. Although, since I've never owned a copy I guess I'm unaffected.

I'm glad it's still 2D and they didn't chop the game up into horribly rendered 3D environments and characters (looks at FF III on the DS). I never liked those 3D remakes from an initially 2D game. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't...

This thread hasn't seen posts for a while so maybe opinions have changed. Who else is getting this game?

This is one of those games that I want to play then hear a better/newer version is coming out so wait on it. Then when I get it I hear another version is coming out, so then I wait to play till that one comes out.

I own the SNES version but waited to play because I heard about the GBA one. I eventually bought the GBA version to hear that the DS version was coming out. I bought that one a couple of months ago and now I hear about this version. And somewhere between all that I bought the PS1 version.

I bought the GBA and PS1 ports, but I'm still excited to own The After Years in a physical format. I think it'll be quite at home on PSP.

Oh definitely. I don't know how good The After Years is but... Come on?! How many digital releases get a physical release after the fact?

I own the SNES version but waited to play because I heard about the GBA one. I eventually bought the GBA version to hear that the DS version was coming out. I bought that one a couple of months ago and now I hear about this version. And somewhere between all that I bought the PS1 version.

But I really need to play it, all these choices make its hard to make up my mind. But I think the PSP and some time later the DS version are the ones I need to play.

I think you should be the most hardcore FF IV fan and play them all at once.

Apparently the game will include another scenario that takes place between FF IV and The After Years.

from the game's site:

FINAL FANTASY IV Interlude is an all-new game that connects FINAL FANTASY IV and The After Years across the decades that separate them. Overseen by Takashi Tokita, lead designer and scenario writer for the original FINAL FANTASY IV on the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Interlude sets the stage for the events of The After Years while tying them directly to the end of FINAL FANTASY IV!

According to the final fantasy wiki the Interlude scenario is longer than The After Years.

The ps1 version's probably the most 'pure' one, so I'd just play that.
