An elite status is based on the number of Coins earned in a Club Nintendo year. The Club Nintendo year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30. Club Nintendo members that reach Gold or Platinum status by the end of the Club Nintendo year will be sent a special reward. See our FAQ for additional information.
Yeah, but that's planned. This one just came out of the blue.

At least they're not stripping away features like Sony is on ps3. Also, when was the last time Sony sent stuff to customers?
They'll send back your/another console after its been sent in for the trillionth time for repairs

Elite Status rewards are announced near the end of the current club nintendo year. The first two years of elite status rewards have come and gone, we are not close to this years announcment either.

Man I always tell them in surveys that Club Nintendo of America needs more controller prizes like the JP GCN controllers. I would love a Wario yellow wii mote. Please give that to me Club nintendo.

Wow. I have been so out of it.

What is this Club Nintendo... and can I claim alumni membership for once being in the Nintendo Fun Club?
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Buy current nintendo stuff and look inside for slips of paper with a red mario hat and an online code worth a set amount of points. You also get points for console purchases :)

To elaborate a bit on what Brad said, the codes are in any nintendo published game. Make an account at club.nintendo.com and register said codes for coins. Get enough coins to redeem for some free swag.

I have wondered what it takes to get to the platinum level. I never find myself buying many nintendo games though.
