Thinking of making a multi-console arcade joystick...

Post by M47R1X »

I was thinking of making an arcade stick from the ground up (Happ parts, not a fan of the Japanese style sticks) and I want it usable on as many platforms as possible, so I'm investing quite a bit of time and funds for this. I figure the best method would be to mod a 360 par or stick with Imp and Cthulu boards, but that's about as far as I've figured. The BlazBlue stick from MadKatz has the nifty feature of emulating the left and right sticks of a 360 pad, but just taking the guts of a $140 stick seems retarded to me. I don't like the X-Arcade, so no, I will not settle for that. Thanks!

THIS. There are so many various adaptors for a PSX controller.

This may help, check the 1st reply:

Hmmm... thatthat's the same reason I made my Saturn PSX pad. I was kinda thinking of basing it around the 360, PS3 and PC with Cthulu and Imp to cut down on adapter clutter, but yeah, that could work. Any way I could cram both configurations in the same box, with both a PSX cord and a USB B port on there? I'm making the thing like a friggin tank, both by durability and girth, so there will be plenty of room inside for the guts. Don't got the patience for two different sticks.

BTW, the design is going to be steampunk based, rather than the typical "what's your favorite fighting game" deal. I want it to look classy, sophisticated, and to where I wouldn't be afraid to show off to even non-gamers. Gonna paint the design and all myself. Looking at 100 hours to sink in to this baby, not including electronics.

That looks pretty damn good to me. Making RJ45 cables would be quite a bit cheaper, and only having one cable between the box and the console is a plus. Thanks for the help, but I think I'll go the Cthulu route. Maybe put a drawer or something in the box to store the cables.

Yep thats the way I'm going too. I've got other projects going but once those are complete I'll sit down and tackle making a stick.
