#? Space Invaders

It caused a freakin' 100yen coin shortage in Japan. It should be a candidate for #1. :P

Wow, that's pretty funny. Never knew that.

I'll throw Operation Wolf into the mix. Loved that game in the arcades.

It's in the Guinness Book of World Records. It caused a 100yen coin shortage. The Japanese government responded by actually increasing coin production, as a direct result of the popularity of Space Invaders.

It is also the top earning arcade game in history. It really is #1! Although I do wonder if Street Fighter II would be, if you combined all the versions together.

IMO, Space Invaders, Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Street Fighter II are the most influential arcade games ever. However, that is not the point of this thread.

I did my best to order the list. There are a few unanswered questions that hopefully the OP can sort out. For example, do you will want to include pinball machines? A few people, myself included, do not think it is the best idea... unless you are talking about machines and not individual games. That begs the questions; are we naming machines, or games? So far, people have been naming games with a few exceptions.

1. X-Men (6-player)
2. Millipede
3. Space Harrier Sit Down Cabinet
4. Medieval Madness!
5. Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
6. Twilight Zone pinball
7. Donkey Kong
8. Sega Ninja
9. Defender
10. 1000 Mile Rally
11. Guitar Freaks XG OR Drum Mania XG*
12. WWF Wrestlefest Arcade
13. Shap Attaq**
14. Die Hard Arcade
15. Donkey Kong***
16. Neo Geo 4-Slot MVS OR Lucky & Wild****
17. The Simpson's (4-player)
18. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
19. Space Invaders
20. Operation Wolf

* Guitar Freaks XG and Drum Mania XG were both mentioned for #11, but the post didn't follow the rules.
** Are pinball games included for sure?
*** Three games were mentioned (rules not followed), but since two of the games have already been included, Donkey Kong might as well be counted by default.
**** Are we counting machines, or just individual games?

@Breetai
Not sure about the rules - certainly, you wouldn't say "I'm going to play the NAOMI" or "I'm thinking about buying an Atomiswave", but the Neo Geo and PlayChoice-10 marketed the machines themselves more than the games. It's an iffy subject.

If the Neo Geo is fair game, then I'd nominate the PlayChoice-10 right about... now.

When I made the thread I honestly didn't think it would be possible to do a top 100 pinball thread. I also felt that arcade games and pinball machines essentially occupied the same spot in my gamer heart and thus should go together in the same list. If the mods feel that they warrant a separate thread, please alter this accordingly.

And yes, the list should mention the actual games not the machines.

Baw. Well, if Neo Geo and PlayChoice-10 don't count, then put me down for Tapper.

Well, I don't know if the OP will agree with what I did or not. I took Drum Mania one off and left Guitar Freaks (it was first), because the rules weren't followed, and put Lucky & Wild in place of the MVS since that seems to agree with both what the OP is looking for and what the person who put that choice up said. If the OP or whatever wants to fix what I did, obviously it's cool.
