Deleting digital games

Post by RCBH928 »

Hey,
I came to a confusing situation lately,
I bought games for my iPad which is digital, of course, no physical media
and after playing them and getting done with them, knowing that 99% I won't be playing them again, and since they cost like 700mb of space

I decided to get rid of them, but I feel bad...
I feel like if I delete them thats like burning my money. Physical media makes you feel good, you see your money or your investment and it will always be there for you. Or maybe you can give it away to some one.

But digital? Deleting it a digital copy like burning to me
Any one felt this before?

Is it a new feeling humans should just learn to get used to it?

I'm not sure how Apple's app store works with this, but at least with Steam, your purchases are tied to your account. You can delete and uninstall all you want and don't have to worry about having to re-buy your games.

If you sync your iPad with your iTunes, the iTunes will save the app on your account. So you can delete an app on you iPad and still have a copy on your iTunes that you can put back on your iPad anytime you want.

Doesn't matter. Your purchases are tied to your iTunes account. So if you want to redownload it just redownload it. It won't charge you again.

This is true, but for obvious reasons it's always best to have backup. Some games can be pulled from iTunes which you then won't be able to download again. I believe Edge was one game that had this happen.

Really? How? I switched computers last year and I still had some apps on there that I really wanted to get back. (GTA Chinatown Wars, Mega Man 2)

How would I re download them again?

This is why retro collecting is awesome, you never have to worry about them being in a digital form because they're simply to old.

You seem to neglect that physical media can go bad with time. Carts are relatively resistant, but they do not last forever and on the flip-side are effectively impossible to backup unless (ironically) you put into a digital form.

They also take up space, are usually trickier to store and harder to transport etc. than the digital ones.

It depends on how many games we are talking about and the size of your available storing space (shelves etc.) versus the size of the digital storage (hard disks, SD cards etc.).

I know I store many of my nostalgia in digital form. I take scans or snapshots of stuff that I do not need but have some sentimental attachment to, then throw it away.

I like having the physical form of it, really makes collecting all that much better when you can just sit back and admire all you have collected. So much better than just looking at a pile of files on a computer screen.
Although I do agree that they of course breakdown over time and digital files do not, but just in the collecting sense having the physical cartridge or disk is so much better.

Got to the store. Click buy (whilst signed into the account you bought it on). It will tell you that you have purchased these apps in the past and therefore not charge you. Downloading will commence shortly afterward.
