Who the hell plays Resident Evil for the plot?
I can't speak for RE5, but the rest of the main-series has always been story driven: Horror movie story with plot-twists, betrayals, an evil corporation master-minding it all, and individual villains with their own agendas.

Huh.

Well, sorry to be the odd man out, but I'm interested.

I've never played either of these two games, but I intended to play them soon, what with my new interest in this series.

I'm perfectly willing to buy these "purdy" versions.

Course, if I already owned them, I'm sure I'd feel the same as everybody else.

Damn shame about the digital only release though. That's the only thing that puts me off.

Thats what I was thinking, and that makes how many RE4 releases now :?

Apparently about 31..

Actually, there are 32 including the iPod touch version lol.

To be perfectly honest the Resident Evil games have always had a terrible storyline but it was the good kind of bad.

The whole evil corporation plot is kinda trite sure but remember playing Resident Evil for the first time? You liked traversing the halls of that creepy mansion constantly on the lookout for zombies that are roaming the halls. Finding bits and pieces of documents that slowly unwind the true secret of the mansion itself. That's why you played Resident Evil. The gameplay and story blended together and made a great horror experience.

Now when you get to RE 4... Capcom basically said this: "Raccoon City has been destroyed so forget everything you've went through previously. Rescue the President's daughter. Shoot everything that moves."

Resident Evil 4 was a great disappointment for people that liked the 'Taking down Umbrella' plot. And to even make sense of the RE 4 plot line you have to play Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles on the Wii. It explains where Krauser (I think that's how it's spelled) came from because RE 4 doesn't give a real explanation for him. He just seemed like another enemy you have to fight; not a major character that is actually involved in the story.

And speaking of the Chronicles games, the Umbrella Chronicles has a section that would've made the perfect Resident Evil 4. Chris and Jill go up to Russia to infiltrate an Umbrella base. That base is in the middle of a blizzard and zombies are crawling out of every nook and cranny. It really would have been an epic end to the entire Umbrella sequence of Resident Evil. Too bad it only exists in light-gun format.

Can't you approach RE4 like a sidestory? That's how I see it in my eyes. Code Veronica probably ties in a bit more to the others itself, but still not that much either. As you said I also definitely believe the RE games never had that great of a plot to begin with, but I don't see the need to nitpick RE4. Heck, it almost felt like Wesker tied into RE4 more than he did RE2-3.

Then when they try and go back to the main story without Mikami, we got RE5. An absolute disaster. Chances are RE is dead, I really wish they'd just reboot the damn thing before they piss on the franchise even more (probably with those 3DS games and whatnot).

Next thing we know Ada's gonna have long blonde hair with cybernetic augmentations, Leon's either gonna be put on steroids with power armor or is gonna get a redesign like the new Dante.

Totally excited about the HD remakes. If it's in tangible disc format I will probably sell my RE4 for PS2. Crossing my fingers for PS3 Move support. Multiplayer mercenaries modes would kick ass, too.

CV is my least favorite game in the series. Yep, I even like RE5 better (actually, RE5 is one of my favorite current gen games). But I would be willing to sit through CV again in HD.

Don't give them any ideas now...

Why did you dislike CV so much? Just curious.

Has this been done yet? Thinking about that made me drool a little. 8)
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

RE5. It was honestly the best part of the entire game too.

I think it was just the design of the game. We finally got our dynamic, moving camera angles and 3D environments, but Capcom somehow thought this was a green light to make the game more action oriented. It just didn't work for me.

I concur.
