Been into Tekken 3 lately. Hardly played any Tekken games before this but now I see why it is so popular.

The game lost it's appeal to me much quicker than I had expected. Usually I get sucked into fighters and don't let go (I still play BlazBlue and SSFIV online pretty regularly), but MvC3 just didn't do anything for me. I can't quite put my finger on it either.... it just never "clicked".the7k wrote:Anyone still playing Marvel vs Capcom 3?

I actually much prefer SSFIV to MvC3. I don't know exactly what it is, but I just don;t find the game all that fun.brunoafh wrote:The game lost it's appeal to me much quicker than I had expected. Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
I think I'm burnt out on MvC3 for awhile.. I enjoyed it, but I still fail to see why so many people swear the VS games are the best fighters out there..
To me it's "Rock, Paper, Scissors: Marvel Edition - HD-Lux"
Recently I pulled out my copy of Power Moves on SNES (Power Athlete in Japan, and Deadly Moves on Genesis, I believe.)

This game is different; reminds me more of the VS aspect to the NES Double Dragon than Street Fighter II. There's a button for jump, rather than conventionally pressing 'up', and you can move freely around the foreground instead of being confined to a single horizontal plane.

Also interesting is the RPG-like level up system. When you defeat a fighter and progress through the tournament, you level up attributes corresponding to your defeated foe. Beat the burly Russian, you gain 8 pts of strength, or defeat the nimble Spanish matador, you net 6 pts of jump (I dunno.)

It's an interesting concept for a fighter, but ultimately this game never gained any proper attention within the Street Fighter II crowd of the early-mid nineties. It's worth a look if you've never played it and are looking for something new to brawl on, but don't go in expecting something akin to an SNK masterpiece...

Wow, that game looks quite clean. I have never even heard of it, and usually that era of fighters is either good, or total trash. Nice to see another one that looks promisingRurouni_Fencer wrote:I think I'm burnt out on MvC3 for awhile.. Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
It's okay, just don't go into it expecting any depth. Also, I should have pointed out: you only play as one character, Joe, throughout the single-player game. The other characters are available for Vs, though. I also don't understand why they put in a password system. I finished the single-player game in the same amount of time it takes to get through a single-player game of Street Fighter II, or Mortal Kombat.dunpeal2064 wrote:

Still, yeah, check it out if you've never heard of it!
Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
I've been getting into Darkstalkers recently. It started when I played Morrigan in Cvs2. I loved her mix-ups with her cross-up and ambiguous jet pack shenanigans and her chain combos so I decided to give Vampire Savior a chance (not sure where that falls in the series).
I like the EX moves and ease of chain combos. Morrigan still had her mix-up and cross-up shenanigans, but they weren't as effective since characters would just roll away and make me whiff my jumping forward. I also couldn't get a tick throw off for the life of me. I would either do nothing or a fierce punch and get a counter hit. I got her command throw off twice. One was completely intentional; forgot what happened but there was some special move a character did that had a lot of recovery.
The atmosphere of the game was...strange. I felt a mixture of humor, melancholy, and pervertedness while playing. The character designs had me entertained at times because they were riduculous (Sasquatch is probably the funniest), but it seemed all the girl characters were wearing almost nothing. There was some cool stages. Felicia's stage took me awhile to comprehend what I was looking at and I was blown away when I realized you were on the side of the building with the street in the background, but then I got to "God's fetus" and well...
I think I'll check out the series and try to level up my game. I think it will be really enjoyable once I get the hang of the system and characters.

Re: What fighter are you currently playing?
Darkstalkers is a huge favorite among many Capcom purists! I love the mixup of old-school horror with humor. I remember playing the original in the arcade when it first came out next to a Super Street Fighter II cab and was blown away by the Saturday morning cartoon-like graphics at the time.
Gameplay wise, so many people credit Darkstalkers for giving way to the VS series of fast-paced, combo-driven gameplay style we know today with Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Personally, I don't know. While Darkstalkers 3 definitely sped things up a bit, (more-so on par with Super Street Fighter II,) I'd like to think that Darkstalkers is more its own identity, just like Rival Schools, Red Earth/Warzard, Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword, and of course Street Fighter.
One thing I will credit the Marvel vs Capcom series for - the heavy inclusion of Darkstalker characters definitely makes the now "decade plus-without-a-sequel" series popular among fans who are clamoring for a brand new Darkstalkers.
Thankfully, Capcom is a company known for listening to the fans, (and not afraid to either revive old series from the dead (Street Fighter), or beat franchises to death (Mega Man, Resident Evil.)
