No, I don't have HD Advance 3.0.

As I said before, if Windows Disk Management can't see the drive, then no program on Windows (including WinHiip) will see it.

When you plug the USB cable, you did get info from Windows about installing drivers, right?

HD Advance 3.0 was the program used to format the drive originally.

When in hook up the drive through the usb i get no prompt for drivers or that a new usb device has been added or detected.

I tried it on my friends laptop with the same result.

I could not get my PS2 HDAdvance 2.0 formated drives to work with WinHIIP either. The drives would not get detected either thru USB or direct internal IDE without a reformat. I also didn't want to risk losing games I already installed in each drive thru earlier direct installs.

I know WinHIIP is a lot quicker for a whole drive install, but for a few games why not just go the direct install or ethernet route? Either method is slow, but you can leave the drive in the Fat PS2 and avoid all those connection issues.

Yeah that's what i was thinking. I ordered a crossover cable so hopefully I can have both options available to me. The amazon seller is also sending me a replacement usb to ide adapter so if that is the issue i'll be covered in the future.

As I stated before, if Windows Disk Management cannot see the PS2 disk, then no PC program will see it including WinHiip. WinHiip does not talk directly to the PS2 drive. It will call Windows raw disk APIs.

Again, it's Windows Disk Management. Not windows explorer, etc. Here's a sample picture

So if it's not listed as a disk there, then WinHiip is not going to work. It should look something like disk 3 in this picture:

I found one IDE drive that did not work with the USB cable in my house. It's an old 8GB drive from the original xbox. It is an EIDE (Enhanced IDE drive). The other drives are ATA 133. I wonder if this might have something to do with it?

What type of drive are you trying to use? What's the manufacturer/model of it? Does it say ATA 66 or 133 or EIDE?

OK.

Found out that my adapter does in fact work.

I pulled the drive from my old Pentium 4 machine and hooked it up and winhip and windows disk management recognized it.

Its a sata drive so i cant use it for the ps2, its also tiny only 40GB, but it does show that the adapter works. It has to be how the hdd was formatted.

I ordered a 320 maxtor drive off ebay for about 25 that's clean so i should be able to use it with the adapter and put games on it with winhiip.

I'll post back when i get it and let you know if it works out.

I don't think it has anything to do with the formatting of the drive. I mean, the game can see unformatted, fat32, ntfs, and ps2 partitions.

I think some of the older drives must have an incompatible protocol or something like that.

Got the new drive today.

Wont work with the adapter.

Opened up both my pcs and i cant mount it as is in the new one, also only had one ide slot on the old one and it was for the dvd drive which i need to burn the drives since the old sata drive is too small to load with isos.

Ordered a ide to sata converter for the board and ill try that.

Crossover cable worked but kept getting an unknown error when i tried to process a job. Not sure what caused that but im about to pull my hair out with this thing.

Nothing i seem to do works. :x

Try installing one original game the normal direct method. This way you can confirm the drive is working properly.

HDAdvance/HDLoader will defrag on every Direct Install or Direct Rename.

For the Ethernet Crossover method: Did you follow the settings I posted in my Guide? Be sure you see a bar appearing that shows space used in the PS2 hard drive.
