So... let's start our own game development group.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Well, I suppose RacketGames (anyone like the name?) could dabble in NES development, so long as we can make and sell the games.

But only if we can strive to do things that don't appear much on the NES, like tower defense games, maybe an RTS game, and a point-and-click adventure game.
I have downloaded a couple things from there to test it out
Same here.

And like I said, we'd start off with simple Flash games, then work our way up to current-gen (XBLA, WiiWare, PSN, iPhone OS, et al) and finally move to retro consoles.

And above all, our projects would represent the values of RacketBoy... a love for retro and retro-style gaming.

So... anyone still interested?

I'm currently kicking around a concept for a 16-bit platforer for the Genesis.

It's pretty much a revisitation of a rather ancient idea I had for a Genesis game when I was about 7-9 years old.

The basic concept revolves around the world of childhood, when cartoons and comics were more important that homework, when bullies were supervillains and we were like superheroes, the old guy who swiped your baseball was the most evil man alive, treehouses were impregnable fortresses, a bike was totally better than any car or flying horse, and parents were dictators who disregarded your rights for their own benefits. So basically, it's takes the unique worldview of a child and makes the metaphors and similies are, essentially, totally valid, though not in the vein of "Kids Next Door".

So, basically, take our collective childhood adventures, trials and victories and make them into a suburban adventure.

And my idea makes no sense, does it? Basically, it's a platformer akin to the Sonic, Mario, and their early '90s 16-bit ilk. The plot revolves around an ironically generic youth who battles bullies, treks through adventures in suburbia and other outlying areas (coastal area akin to lakes/soundsides but not oceans; wooded areas like the woods; the mall; the arcade; et al). If you recall any neighborhood ne'er-do-wells (I've got a rogue's freakin gallery), junkyard adventures, nature treks, and other various childhood journal-fodder, great.

And in future installments, tackle other genres (kart racing, RPG).

I'd be happy to help with the music.

Hooray! I may be relevant to this whole thing after all!

Though, I need to buy a new keyboard for any retro style stuff. I really wish I hadn't sold my old one now. :?

Not sure how serious this thread is, and I don't feel like reading all 12 pages. However, I may be interested. I have skills in both art and music. I'm only good with 2D art though, no 3D skills at all. As for music, I have some good MIDI composition skills. I've made dozens of video game-themed MIDIs, but don't have any hosted anywhere online. I can probably put some up if anyone is interested in hearing em. I can also play multiple instruments and use music creation/recording software pretty well (although this isn't much of a talent on it's own). If my response hasn't hinted at this yet, I would be suited best for making retro-themed games (2D sprite work and MIDI composition skills).

Here are some songs I've arranged/composed:
An original song (video game sounding)
Final Fantasy 4 Battle Theme (techno-ish remix)
Theme of Granveil (a metal arrangement of a song from an obscure SFC game. nice guitar featured)

All work in the songs was done by me.

I don't have any art or programming skills, but I'd be more than happy to help in any way possible. I could do testing, proof reading, writing or anything that you would need me to do. Depending on the game I'd also be able to think of ideas or just give my feedback.

It should be noted it might be best to private message me if you happen to need to contact me.

I would be willing to help out. I've had some fun in the past making pixel art out of vector graphics. It can be a little more challenging than making pixel art using programs that are natively pixel-based like Photoshop, but has benefits. You can alter the work tremendously, even scale it to ridiculous sizes without a loss in quality.

I also have some experience working with animation in both Flash and After Effects. I've animated web page designs in Flash and animated motion graphics for in After Effects, but I'm sure I can tweak my skills to work with character/background animations like you find in retro games.

I don't have much experience with games but I do have experience with film/animation (2D - I have no experience with 3D at this point)/web design and am willing to enhance my knowledge and bring something to the table.

I have a fully accredited B.F.A. in Fine Art which I basically received for learning Adobe Creative Suite, my way around a great deal of camera/lighting/computer equipment, and Final Cut Studio with an emphasis on vidoegraphy/design/animation/etc. so I do have at least some formal training in this stuff just so you know I'm not talking out of my ass. :)
