I don't understand your comment that you have games loaded on it and they play fine. Play fine where? On the PS2?Mendoza wrote:I tried the drive on my old xp machine and had the same result

Re: PS2 WinHIIP doesn't detect the HDD
Ok, I just pulled out my USB<->IDE adapter, a spare Maxtor hard disk and the power supply. The USB<->IDE adapter is plugged into the IDE connector. It also comes with an AC power transformer that I plug into the drive power connector.
On my XP machine, I plug the USB end into the computer. I bring up Computer Management -> Disk Management. It says something about unknown drive and that it wants to put a marker on it (I forget the exact text). So I let it. Disk Management shows the drive and that it's unpartitioned and unformatted. Then I bring up WinHiip and it's able to see the drive and format it just fine.
I did this both with the jumper on CS and then with it on MASTER. In both cases, it worked fine.
I then hooked it up to my Win7 x86 laptop. It detects the USB connection and automatically installs the USB driver. Again, I bring up Computer Management -> Disk Management and again, it wants to put some sort of marker on it. I let it and as with XP, I can see the unformatted and unpartitioned hard disk.
I bring up WinHiip and it doesn't detect the drive. I bring up the program properties for winhiip.exe and specified XP SP3 compatibility mode. Then I bring up WinHiip and I get Windows 7 UAC (User Access Control) where it states that WinHiip is trying to access the hard drive and do I want to let it do so? I say yes and then I bring up WinHiip. This time, the drive is detected correctly and I'm able to format it.

I see. Mine never says unknown drive when i plug it in or go to disk management on the pc. The drive spins and the red indicator light is on, but nothing happens and i cant find the drive on either winhiip or windows management.

Re: PS2 WinHIIP doesn't detect the HDD
Do you have another drive that you can try?
Can you take a photo of the drive/cable connection (IDE level).

Unfortunately, no. I have no camera. Snowkitty installed some games to the drive for me with winhiip so i think at this point it must be the adapter. I just tried it again, and now the drive wont spin up when i plug it in, but it still works in the PS2.gtmtnbiker wrote:Do you have another drive that you can try?

I'm going to try ordering another drive to test with and a crossover cable as a back up method of moving games.
Thanks for the help. If i can get any picks up ill post them.

Do you have a computer with an IDE connection? If so, try it there instead of the USB/IDE adapter.
You should be able to find another IDE drive somewhere from an old computer or a friend. It doesn't have to be big. Just that it's an IDE drive.
It does sound like there is something wrong with your adapter. Do you have a link to the adapter that you ordered?
Mine has 3 connections on it. IDE, SATA and some other type of IDE connection. Are you sure that you plugged it in the correct way? The connector should cover all of the pins, not almost all of them. Also, there should be a notch on the connector to ensure that you plug it in the correct way.
The one that I have is this one:

Yup, that's the same one I have (bought from eforcity).
When did you buy it? Maybe you can tell them that you think it's defective and get a new one?

Yeah i got it about a week ago so i sent off an email to the seller.
I have a copmuter made last year so i dont think i have any ide connectors.
I tested the drive in the PS2 again and it still works there.
Could it be that winhiip wont recognize it because the drive was formatted using a HD Advance 3.0 disc?
