I've gone through two sets of official Nintendo Gamecube/N64 composite cables in the past two years...they start making weird audio effects and eventually the video goes out as well. Has anybody else had trouble with 1st party cables like this, or is it something I'm doing? I'm always careful not to yank them out of the TV when I change connections, and they don't get tangled up in storage...I'm just kind of stumped.
BTW, I've never had any first party Sony, Microsoft, or Sega cables go out on me either.
N64/Gamecube composite cable issues?

Does it happen on all the video inputs on your television set?
And does it happen when you plug something else into the same input?

Sounds like you switch out consoles when you play a different system. Anytime you unplug a cable, there is a risk of damage. The game cables are thin and SVideo versions are especially fragile.
Two solutions:
1. Leave all consoles hooked up to switch box or two.
2. Add extra RCA cables to the ends of the game cables.
The first solution is definitely the better route, your TV can also be damaged from the constant plugging of cables.

I tested it with my PS2 after my gamecube stopped showing any picture, and it worked fine. I haven't tested any of the other composite inputs though recently, but they've always been fine in the past.Opa Opa wrote:Does it happen on all the video inputs on your television set?

This might be a possibility - however I have left this particular cable plugged into the tv since day 1. I do change the end that connects to the console between the two occasionally though, if that changes anything.CRTGAMER wrote:Sounds like you switch out consoles when you play a different system. I'm just kind of surprised I've had two die on me so far while my PS1's (which were treated FAR worse by my younger siblings...) still work

Maybe the contacts are just corroding a bit. Are you in a high humidity area or is their a vapor source near the consoles?

I live in NC...it's humid here, but not THAT humid. I'm pretty sure it's just chance at this point. I mainly wanted to know if it was a known problem (googleing "nintendo" and "composite cables" kind of didn't help muchHobie-wan wrote:Maybe the contacts are just corroding a bit.
