River City Ransom 2 announced!

Post by jfrost »

The sequel was announced yesterday, as far as I can tell, as Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari 2.

The game is being developed by the same staff that made the first one plus a few.

There's really nothing else about it, but it's good news, isn't it?

Nah, you'll just get giant whip like weapons that you can spin around aimlessly hitting everything on the screen and all the big enemies and bosses will be nothing but QTE's! ;)

But seriously, the original devs doing this has to be promising. Should be interesting...

That Mario FPS is creative but Idk if I could get used to that or even like it but it's definitely well done. I couldn't imagine River City Ransom in FPS. Sorry, I just feel FPS are meant for games like Doom, Duke Nukem, etc. I would rather 3D (which is most likely what it will be) before any extreme change like FPS first.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

I'm sure many of you know this story, but I feel like I should relay it anyway in case you don't: Back in the early 2000's this dude that was working for Atari got the bright idea to apply for the expired copyright to the RCR title. And he got it! So then he said to himself, "okay well then, guess I'll start a development company and make River City Ransom 2 then!" So he did just that. For GBA. They worked on it for some months and then Atlus announced that they would be publishing River City Ransom EX soon for GBA. Apparently there was some IP ownership confusion and ultimately, the RCR project was abandoned. Too bad eh? I always wonder what it would have been like.

It's just a video for fun. It's obvious that Mario would suck in first-person. Your depth perception is compromised, hitting the block above you would be a chore.

I still play the GBA version to this day. I actually have a spare GBA SP that I leave in my desk at work. Sometimes I will bring a different game in for the day but the only two games I leave at work are that and GTA.

If they don't try to do anything too crazy or different I don't see how they could mess it up but I have been surprised before. It better have online multiplayer as well. That is my only complaint about Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

It is fun to play multiplayer local but I am 33 and all my friends I grew up playing video games with are spread out in different states so local isn't really a option. I have two friends that played the shit out of the original River City Ransom with me when we were kids but wouldn't buy Scott Pilgrim just because it wasn't online.

Regardless I will be buying this the day it comes out if it looks even close to the original style of play.
