What shmup are you playing now?

I started playing DUX, i really like it.i prefer keeping the background on rather than whiteing it out i really find no difference in gameplay.

I was curious about that one, Does it play similar to any other games?

I'm fairly new to the genre, I wouldn't know what other game to describe it too. I mean the only other shooter Ive played is Galactic Attack and it's nothing like that. The gameplay itself is very entertaining, with awesome music. its a very colorful game. and the characters on screen are big..

DUX - It plays vertically and slow, with large enemies and backgrounds. Musically it is enjoybable, visually and actual gameplay are lacking. Sort of in the R-Type genre. Had it been released on the Genesis, it would have been a pretty nice game. It does not flatter the dreamcast.

For $20-25 it is worth a shot, I wouldn't rocket it to the top of your want list.

not to me. And to be honest I personally wouldn't call Red Star a shmup either. Just my personal take on the word.

Nah, PN03 doesn't advance you automatically and there are several instances where you can jump between different elevations or back track. I'm not sure what PN03 is if it's not a SHUMP.

yeah that's why I said "kind of." I dn't know. Maybe closer to a tube shooter haha. I don't know. I think of shmups to look like this:

By my thinking, it is almost the exact same concept - guide your character through a storm of bullets while shooting back. Special attacks grant you temporary invincibility and wipe out your enemies.

And you keep getting told to 'shoot the core'.

Sounds like a SHMUP to me, just with a different presentation.

Week 2 of the shmups forum fun, so Xexex. Not Konami's finest backgrounds on the 3 levels I've played so far, but the game is fun. Of course die and you're slow as hell and up the creek, just like Gradius games.

remember when a bunch of you guys played like a bunch of shmups in one month? Like a crash-course or something? What's the deal? Is it annual thing?
