I'll be honest that I have only passing interest in the other "Let's Name" threads, but as someone who has recently been trying to better appreciate video game soundtracks (from all eras and of all styles) on their own merits, I think this thread would be useful.
I want to limit the list to soundtracks that have actually had some kind of official release (as opposed to rips or redbook audio). That means no stuff like the Lords of Thunder soundtrack, which would fit better in this thread: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 44&t=29286. Spin-off soundtracks are also ok (such as the FF7 Piano Collection below).
Post 1 official release per post (box sets are ok), wait for at least two other people to post before posting a new title. No links to downloads, but links to places to purchase are fine.
Here's the list (updated January 27, 2013):

Man, there are a lot of rules to follow in this thread.
Anyway...
4. Shatter

Shatter is not only the best Breakout inspired games since Arkanoid, it also has one of the best videogame soundtracks of all time. It's worth buying the game just to listen to the music, though the soundtrack is sold separately. It's created by a guy who records under the monicker of Module. The music has a disco-electro-funk sound very simlar to the band Justice.

Good call on this one. Didn't know it had an OST. Good news.
05. Final Fantasy VII - Piano Collection (
I like the stand alone FF7 soundtrack, but I am a sucker for anything done well using a piano. This is quite good, and really emphasizes a lot of the quiet beauty in even the most driving songs from the score.
Re: Let's Name the Top 100 Video Game Official Soundtracks!
Shatter definitely has a good soundtrack.
6. Guilty Gear XX #Reload Korean
Guilty Gear is a pretty standard choice, but this is the soundtrack to the Korean version of #Reload, and features a brand new set of themes for each character. Ishiwatari's songs are great as usual, with some character themes being even better than the original ones, like Slayer's.

One of the best modern 'retro' soundtracks in recent times. Avaible here in both download and CD: http://www.souleye.se/pppppp
Also avaible is a remixed soundtrack PPPPPPowerup! again in download or CD form: http://www.souleye.se/ppppppowerup
