Time to buy a Retro Duo: buy local or on-line?

Time to buy a Retro Duo: buy local or on-line?

Post by Scooter »

I can buy a Retro Duo at a local used game store for $59.99 plus sales tax or I can buy one on-line for around $50 shipped. I like the idea of buying local, of supporting a local business but I wish they could price match the on-line price. If there are any issues with the unit, it sure would be easier to deal with someone local. They have both the white and black units locally so I can make a choice whichever way I go.

I'm leaning toward buying local.

Wow, only $10 (plus tax) difference. That's pretty good. Around here the shops charge around $75 for an FC Twin, and I've yet to see a Retro Duo. If you want to support local I say $10 is a small price to pay to keep a shop in town which carries such things.

I wish the new store in town which really caters to the seriously retro stuff was the one selling the RD, but instead it is the larger (small regional chain) store that's been around for years that has it. I don't think they will live or die on my purchase but they are local. They've never treated me bad but their focus is certainly more on the used game market for modern systems than it is on the older stuff.

I think I'm going to buy local anyway, just for the peace of mind that they'll be there if the unit craps out on me.

I just bought one recently from an eBay seller called The-Video-Queen for $50 shipped. It came super quick and the seller responded to my emails promptly. Still though, an extra $10 to buy local isn't bad.
