I've always lived in breezy places -- warm socks come first. It warms my entire body in the morning. (I leave 'em overnight over the radiator).
As for the zipper, it depends on how tight the jeans are. Fastidiously, I fasten the fly first, but on occasion I have seen denim with stiff zippers.
