The main character's (Nikki Basara) mech from Macross 7 (Japan-only mid-90s sequel to Robotech). I love the series, but overall it is probably one of the least-liked Macross' series among fans. My username is the name of a character from the original Macross/Robotech series.

@ Emwearz - how hard is it being a gamer in Aussie land?
Pretty hard. It use to be a lot worse, we use to get things months and sometimes years late and pay out the ass for it. But there are still massive issues with out game pricing today.

We pay at a retail store $80-$120 for a new release console game while in the states it seems closer to $40-$60 and our dollar is currently stronger than the US dollar.

It is not just in stores but even digital, which I see NO EXCUSE for. Steam for example:

Dragon Age: Origins | USA = $69.99 | AUS = $ 29.99
Sonic Adventure DX | USA = $ 8.99 |AUS = $ 19.99
Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 | USA = $ 19.99 | AUS = $ 39.99
And the list goes on and on.

How can they charge more, for the same content, when dealt digitally!

And retro sucks because of how many games were not released on PAL.
I imagine the ratings board situation must be pretty frustrating too.

The nonsense going on right now with Mortal Kombat is ridiculous.
Same crap that happened with Left 4 Dead 2

So, Mr. CFFJR, who I haven't run into much on this site yet, I take it you are a Ranma 1/2 fan? How did you get into that anime?

For the record, if anyone feels like asking me why I can be such a prick (do I ever come across like that?), I'm cool with it.
Yes, I am indeed a huge fan of Ranma. :D Have been for many years.

I was just starting to get interested in manga a bit before the huge popularity boom (and subsequent fallout, heh.), and I went to the bookstore to browse. I picked up volume 1 of Ranma, and volume 1 of Slayers, pretty much at random. Slayers didn't do anything for me (there are people who would hate me for saying that) but I fell in love with Ranma.

I got addicted, bought up all the books as they came out, bought up the dvds, and of course bought the games, though I'm missing about half of those still.

Now I'm having fun with it all over again because I introduced the series to my wife, who's enjoying it quite a bit, which is awesome.

By the way, you're not a prick at all. You're just salty, in a very endearing way.

Are you hitting on me?

Is your wife into games/manga/anime at all?

My wife used to watch Urusei Yatsura (an anime before Ranma 1/2 by the same creator). She wasn't into Ranma 1/2 so much. I'm not into either, but of course I at least know of them.

She wasn't before she met me, heh heh.

I introduce her to things here and there. She had zero experience with games before she met me. She's a pretty decent player nowadays, but when she started she was the sort who, if you told her to turn right in a 3d or overhead game, she assumed you meant the character's perspective. If the character was facing left, she'd push up. Odd, but she got used to it.

Now she plays quite a few games on her own (at the moment, she's almost finished with Fable), and does coop with me frequently. One of the first games she beat was running coop with me on Halo 3. We love to play Streets of Rage (or any beat em up really) together. Recently I got her playing Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, which she's been having a lot fun with.

As for anime/manga, I just started showing her some. The first was Maison Ikkoku, (another by Ranma creator Takahashi), which she likes but hasn't finished. I also showed her Kino's Journey (she absolutely loved it, this is the one that got her asking me for more) Jing: King of Bandits, and of course Ranma.

Funny you mentioned Urusei Yatsura. I just started reading that series. It's really fun.

Yikes!

The first theme from Urusei Yatsura (Lum's Love Song) is constantly in my head.

Catchy!

Ataru is great. He's such a relentless horndog. Never have I seen a guy so skilled at digging his own grave.

I meant to ask you earlier when you asked me, but does your wife play games at all?
