Hey satoshi!

My fiance does similar work, but I'm curious, do you do the bead setup in reverse, so that you are ironing the backside on the get go? Or do you use two peg boards and flip the image prior to ironing? I noticed the ironed side is on the bottom of all your creations, but by doing the later method (flipping ala 2-board) we ended up messing up tons of good designs :P

Figured I'd ask 8)
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

yes, generally speaking I make them mirrored before ironing so the "correct" side is the side you see.

I shared the Mega Man 2 robot masters image on Tumblr, and gave a source link to your blog. So now all, let's see.... 5 people who follow me can be wowed.

update time.

Portraits of the robots from Megaman 3. From top to bottom, left to right: Sparkman, Snakeman, Needleman, Hardman, Megaman, Topman, Geminiman, Magnetman, Shadowman.

I made this set over three years ago, and overironed Geminiman. If I were to redo this set, Geminiman would turn out a lot better given what I've learned.

These updates are so nostalgic for me. I used to make these as a little kid with my mom.

Wait, you only iron one side?
I've always been doing both.

Won't the thing curve out a lot if you only iron one side, by the way?

Huh, that's some cool stuff. :D

I might buy a couple at some point...

For the sake of example, would you be able to make the sprites in my sig? Or does it have to be an 8bit sprite?

He probably could make the ones in your sig (he would need many pegboards but he probably has enough). There are some extra technical challenges when the designs get too big.

They would be really huge. Count the height in pixels and multiply by the diameter of a bead to get an idea. Also it would take a lot of time and beads, so you can expect it to be somewhat pricey.

Yes, but I apply a technique to prevent that from happening. If mine do buldge, you could only notice it if you were to lay it completely flat on a table and look at it at table length. I've pretty much perfected the process so bulging no longer occurs. I tend to not iron both sides as it makes the sprites look somewhat worse.

I prefer to work in 8-bit as I have more control with the colors and have to do less substitution for 16-bit colors vs bead colors, but yes, I could make both of the sprites you posted. They would be on the large side, and not particularly cheap. I suppose I could do both of them for around $60 (rough estimate). PM me if you're interested in a custom order.

Okay, so I suppose I should update again.

Note that these sprites are color enhanced to reflect their original artwork, not the NES color pallet.

what's the average price you do for an NES sprite, out of curiosity?
