Damn... That just sucks. So many thinks suck there now. I'm almost going to cry, despite saying I couldn't earlier...

Maybe it's good I'm not in Japan right now with my wife and kid.

What were gas prices at before? 150yen/L, give or take?
If I didn't have the support of people around me and my family, I wouldn't want to be alone here right now in this very trying time.

Gag is roughly 130/L. Now if you can find gas, 140~150 if the place isn't price gouging.

Surprisingly people have actually been being ultra conservative on electricity so we didn't get any rolling black outs. The Fukushima plants are obviously not going to be running as usual soon (if ever again) so how much is summer going to suck here?... A lot. Still tons of earthquakes, aftershocks, and more and more are happening. Is this a sign to GTFO??
I'm seriously thinking of just bailing the country. And yes, it's very good not to be here now and I wish that I wasn't... Rather, I wish that the whole thing just never happened.

Hashiriya, any word on your friends?

My wife has some friends that have family in the Sendai area. One specifically just moved to Vancouver a month ago from Iwanuma ( ). My wife knew her when they both lived Tokyoy. Her parents and younger sister are unaccounted for. I know of another exchange student here who has been unable to contact her family in Miyagi, and is basically freaking out. Very scary stuff for them.

Really? That kind of surprised me. Do you have a connection to those in Iwate/Sendai and the surrounding areas?
Many people dying from horrible earthquakes and tsunamis, and you are surprised I could cry about it?
Okay... I give up. I finally broke down myself.

I cry whenever I watch a video of the tsunami destroying cities. It's so sad.

*edit*
The two Japanese friends I have kept in contact with are both alive and safe. I just talked with one of them. However, they are worried about the possible meltdown.

I'm glad your friends are safe.

I worry about the nuclear issue... worry a lot.

I thought it would be higher than that, I'm glad the powers that be are keeping it down. I remember in the summer of 2008 it was 170/Liter for regular....and there was no disaster.

They keep changing the number, but any ideas what the causality rates are really up to? :(
