Burnt out on retro games?

It sounds like you need to take a break from gaming all together. You have been playing a ton of games for years and you have 3,000 posts on a retro gaming site. Sounds like its time to just take a break from playing, talking about and thinking about games.

I think if you find a new hobby, read some books or just get away from gaming... you will end up coming back to it later with more fond memories and enjoy it again.

I hear what you're saying. I'm actually burnt out on current-gen games... so many are coming out, and they're so expensive. I think after this gen, I might stop buying new games all together and stick with the classics and my massive backlog.

Most of my nostalgia lies in the NES/Genesis/SNES era, so it's a little different for me. I can see how you would be burnt out trying to dig up the hundreds of great games pre-PS1 era, I think anyone would be.

Word. Seriously after quitting Gamefly a few months back, I'd have to say it's been awesome not having to worry about so many games to play and check out. Instead I'm just hitting up my backlog, discovering new old gems, and it's awesome.

I think I can finally say for the most part with new gen stuff, "I can wait".

My friends and I went a bit crazy when we discovered emulation, and then discovered what we coined "emulation burnout". When you can download a complete romset in the blink of an eye, you get so overwhelmed that you don't know what to play and eventually don't play anything. That's partially why I don't emulate anymore. But yeah, eventually the backlog becomes so crazy I just throw my hands in the air and stop for a bit.

I have to agree here that it can be pretty overwhelming downloading huge collective packs of roms or whatnot, I never really look for those. Heck I think more than half the SNES roms I've got thesedays are games I already own, just so I can conveniently play them on the PC if I ever want. So yeah, not a huge fan of randomly downloading romsets. Although in some cases it's fine, like the 32x ... quality jokes aside there's not a whole lot of games for it anyways.
