Just watched Ink(2009)! Started off. . . odd, but started moving in cool directions during the first action scene. Worth sticking with. Sort of predictable, and some of the over the top artsy for the sake of being artsy shots and edits were more distracting than anything, but still a good movie. 8/10.

I sadly haven't gotten to The Brood yet. I just recently realized how large my backlog of unwatched movies has gotten so I've been trying to whittle it down. It's on my list though, so hopefully I'll get to it soonRedline9 wrote:Yeah, that's a movie that could really catch you off-guard with its weirdness if you aren't familiar with Cronenberg. Have you seen The Brood? That's another Cronenberg movie that keeps topping itself with weirdness as it progresses to its climax.
Watchemen: I finally got around to watching it. It took me for freakin' ever and I'm not sure why, but I wasn't disappointed. I re-read the novel before watching the film and I was honestly a little surprised with how faithful an adaptation it was. Yes, I know the whole ship sidestory was skipped, but that really didn't bother me. I was a bit surprised by, what to me were, the seemingly extended scenes with Daniel and Laurie. I just didn't feel they were necessary and the time could have been better used for other plot points. Like, say, Mason's murder. And I was a little disappointed by the switched ending, but lets face it, the original ending was a bit...odd, even then. Though I do think they could have come up with something else if they'd really thought about it.
On a side note, I'm really glad they put glimpses of the book excerpts in the opening credits. I was expecting them to skip over those, so that was a nice surprise.
Amazing Grace: I'm not sure what to say about this one. It wasn't a bad movie by any means, it just wasn't my favorites. I don't know. I guess I just didn't think it was dramatic enough. *shrugs* Still a good movie though.

Just watched Enemy Mine starring Dennis Quaid. Neat little sci-fi movie from the 80s that had a message of peace behind it. It was enjoyable.

Star Trek:First Contact
Besides the reboot self-titled movie, I never seen any of the other Star Trek films because I have absolutely no knowledge of the TV shows. From knowing nothing from Star Trek:TNG, I really enjoyed this and really wouldn't mind checking out the other films and possibly the show.
Bronson
I remember none of my friends wanted to go see this in the cinemas, so I went alone and then went back the next day because I just loved it. One of my favorite films just because of how out there the character is and Tom Hardy is just fantastic playing the character.

I'm pretty much a Star Trek geek. I don't dress up in Starfleet uniforms or speak Vulcan or anything. But have watched a ton of Star Trek and own a lot of Star Trek books and comics. And Star Trek: First Contact is my favorite Star Trek movie.OldSchool_Boy wrote:Star Trek:First Contact

My next favorite 3 were Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek: Generations in that order. Thought I'd give you some suggestions since you said you were thinking about checking out the other films.
As for the shows, Star Trek: The Next Generation was by far my favorite series.

I've been wanting to see Bronson, after seeing the trailer and a couple of clips a friend showed me (specifically the butter scene...apparently that guy really did that). It looks awesome.OldSchool_Boy wrote:Star Trek:First Contact

As for First Contact, I liked it as well, but Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country will likely always be my personal favorite. The ones BurningDoom mentioned are also all worth checking out. It's always a great time to become a Star Trek fan.
As for what I've recently watched, I haven't posted in a while, but mainly I've just been watching X-Files episodes and older films I've seen many times. That said, I watched a new one today...for me at least.
High Noon
This 1952 Western's a little different. Starring Gary Cooper as Marshal Will Kane, the film moves in pseudo-real time (it's not actually true real time, as there's about a 10 minute difference between the film's events and its actual length, though it's so close it's not really noticeable). Basically Kane has just gotten married and given up being the marshal (and his replacement won't arrive until the next day) when he learns that an outlaw named Frank Miller he helped put away five years before for murder is arriving on the noon train to meet up with three thugs to gun Kane down. What follows is nearly an hour and a half of Kane trying to find help as the townspeople and his friends basically bail on him for personal gain, out of cowardice, or because they think the shootout will be bad publicity. Lon Chaney Jr's former marshal character really helps set the psychological tone with a speech about how deep down humanity just doesn't care about law and order. It's a great film that has received some well deserved accolades.
And now for some random trivia about it:
John Wayne hated High Noon, saying he made Rio Bravo in response to it.
High Noon is Bill Clinton's favorite film. He screened it 17 times during his two terms. It was also Dwight D. Eisenhower's favorite film, and Ronald Reagan was also a big fan. It is the film most requested by U.S. presidents for screening in the White House.
High Noon lost the Best Picture award at the Academy Awards to Cecil B. DeMille's The Greatest Show on Earth, which also beat out Singin' in the Rain and The Quiet Man. The Greatest Show on Earth is often cited as one of the worst winners of the award.
High Noon is sometimes believed to be an allegory for the blacklisting in Hollywood during the McCarthy era. Both the Left and the Right in the United States have enjoyed the film, though it was severely criticized in the Soviet Union.

A-Team. Was okay. The story telling + action scenes was interesting but I've seen it before and done better (can't recall what movie though).
