Vizio brand HDTV - love or hate?
Re: Vizio brand HDTV - love or hate?
I think they are good tv's for the price. Sometimes paying more for a sony or a samsung is not worth it when they may only look slightly better.

CSY2100, scart to rgb component doesn't work with my model 1 Genesis on this Vizio.
I've had this Vizio 32in for about a year and a 1/2, other than the Genesis rgb issue I have no complaints.
Need to get a new HDTV for my living room (Zenith crt burned out) and hopefully I can find one that will work with the CSY2100.

It would be in your best interest to get a IScan or more robust DVDO Edge/XRGB3/upcoming Frame meister. Would allow any HDTV to work with 240p over component, and create the best quality for any given display. A little expensive, but quality is always expensive.notacrook wrote:CSY2100, scart to rgb component doesn't work with my model 1 Genesis on this Vizio.

Good site to read up on this stuff. Most HDTV's do not like 240p over component (which is what almost all pre dreamcast games are except a handful). Heck picking up a scaler will reduce input lag.

I have a 32 inch Vizio HDTV. I likes it a lot =3 PS3 looks great on it. Retro consoles don't look so good though =/
Actually even the Wii looks bad... but that's probably mainly because it's a Wii

I've heard vizio is a solid budget brand. I wouldn't get lcd though plasma all the way. Couple extra bills and you can good sized panasonic plasma. I got 42 incher myself for a little over 700$. Real easy on the eyes compared to my LCD monitor for my pc. Kicks its butt for gaming as well.

Can't take a dent in my wallet right now for an XRGB-3. I already have a CSY-2100 and am in the market for a new TV.. What TV's do support 240p over component, are there any specific models anyone can recommend? Is there a list somewhere?ChuChu Flamingo wrote:It would be in your best interest to get a IScan or more robust DVDO Edge/XRGB3/upcoming Frame meister. Maybe I should start a new topic.
Re: Vizio brand HDTV - love or hate?
A friend of mine bought a Vizio a few years ago because it was a steal for a large HDTV. However, after a while, it had dead pixels, burn-in, and noticeable lag. I hear that the brand quality has improved since then, but I haven't researched that claim to see if it was true.
Re: Vizio brand HDTV - love or hate?
My dad has one that he got pretty cheap.
I've hooked up my ps3 to it a few times. The video is really good. The colours look great.
In terms of really technical video things, I don't really know enough to tell you anything. I was playing Street Fighter IV and it look great, and I didn't see any lag.
It looks a hell of a lot better than my three-year old Sony Bravia that cost four times as much, that's for sure. Kinda pissed off about that. Heh.
One thing I've noticed is that the sound on the Vizio is atrocious. Very trebly, distorted, tinny, awful. The worst I've ever heard. But, I assume that if you were to hook up decent speakers to it, and not use the tv's speakers, it should sound fine.

I personally love my 32" Vizio. I bought mine sometime around January in 2010 and its still going strong. 1080/720/480p looks great on it, but as with all LCDs, retro consoles using 480i or less look a bit sub-par. All my older consoles do work on it though, through RF and composite. I'd definitely recommend the brand to anyone who is thinking about getting one.

Re: Vizio brand HDTV - love or hate?
I, too, have a Vizio 32 inch (VO32L, 1080p). Truth be told, I've had no problem with it, except converting RGB to component either by SCART through a CSY-2100 (Japanese SMS, Genesis/Sega CD/32x tower, Super Nintendo, and Saturn) or by a built in mod, such as in my Neo Geo. Doing the research I've been doing (which makes me glad to have found this thread) I realize that the TV doesn't like ancient resolutions over component. I see the IScan mentioned further up in the thread, and I wonder if that is really the solution. I don't mind paying the price for an Edge if it solves my problem (plus the other benefits it would give me), but I simply want to be sure it does solve this specific problem. Can the Edge take a 240p signal over component and work its magic on it just like it does with everything else?
