I contacted the people I know have family there. Only had one of them reply and everything was fine with that one. Hope the others are ok.

Japan Quake/Tsunami
Re: Japan 8.9M Quake/Tsunami
Yes, I was surprised. I felt a lot of emotions about this, as well as the revolutions in the Arab countries, the quake in Haiti a while back, and so on. I just don't generally cry unless someone I know well is directly involved (meaning injured/killed). I thank God that none of my family or friends in Japan (that I know of) were injured/killed, although one sister-in-law got stranded and had to walk 2-3 hours home, and my other sister-in-law's family is without power/gas/running water still. I guess I was just a bit surprised, that's all. We just react differently.Inazuma wrote:Many people dying from horrible earthquakes and tsunamis, and you are surprised I could cry about it? I don't have any personal connections with the areas hit the hardest, but I have an extremely strong love for Japan and its people. Even if it was a country I didn't care about, it would still be horrible to hear about so many people suffering.Breetai wrote:Really? That kind of surprised me. Some of those videos really are shocking. The thought of that train being carried away in the tsunami (as well as people/cars), if it has passengers, actually gives me the chills. My mom-in-law said the shaking hasn't even stopped since the big quake happened! My wife has a live video feed on, and actually watched the recent 6.6 aftershock happen. Her mom called her right as it hit.
Hopefully those Racketboy members and their family are all right. I think there was someone in that area, but I can't remember who.

I don't think it's strange to cry when something this bad happens when you don't know the people. I didn't cry myself, but if I really thought about it I probably would. Right now I'm just shocked. I'm also a little worried for an old childhood friend that lives in Japan. I don't know which part he lives in. I'm hoping he responds to my e-mails to say he is alright.

My thoughts go out to everyone in Japan. I don't really know what to say as this was so shocking. I hope you guys are able to contact your friends and family as soon as possible and know they are alright.
Re: Japan 8.9M Quake/Tsunami
Yeah, maybe I was being silly in wondering that. Anyway... so many aftershocks that are about 7.0. That is insane.J T wrote:I don't think it's strange to cry when something this bad happens when you don't know the people. I didn't cry myself, but if I really thought about it I probably would. Looks like some trains have started going again (at least in Tokyo).

I still can't get through. I am still getting error messages saying the phone system is at full capacity. I'm supposed to be in Sendai next week. We'll see if that is still happening. Two of my friends in Miyagi prefectyre were able to reach me via facebook because their cellphones are dead, so that is the only good news.
Re: Japan 8.9M Quake/Tsunami
Most of the English news sources are reporting that there are over 1000 casualties and 1000 missing. However, in Japanese sources, they are reporting 1000 casualties/missing COMBINED (400 dead/ 700 missing)*. I'm thinking that a lot of English reporters are mistranslating the kanji as 1000 confirmed dead, when this is not the case currently.
*it is now saying 1100 dead/missing combined.

Im not sure if this related to japan earthquake to entire world because "Japan earthquake shifted Earth's axis was 10 cm". I'm wondering why is it hot today in California, like as if summer weather just started.
Here are some pictures of the aftermath.

That article mentions nothing about the axis being shifted 10cmbenderx wrote:Im not sure if this related to japan earthquake to entire world because "Japan earthquake shifted Earth's axis was 10 cm". I'm wondering why is it hot today in California, like as if summer weather just started.
