Ever had games/console/ electronics stolen ?
Re: Ever had games/console/ electronics stolen ?
I have a friend who lives in a bad part of town and he's had two break-ins over the past couple years. The second time someone stole his Wii with ~$300 in Virtual Console games. We've been begging him to move, and he can afford to with his great computer science job, but he likes sitting out on his porch and listening to domestic arguments until the police show up.

I've never had any electronics stolen, primarily because by the time I get them, nobody wants them.
I did steal an old lady's respirator once, though. You know, boys will be boys.

I had final fantasy VII (ps1) and resident evil 0 (gc) both taken from me. Though I can't really say they were stolen. It was by my former best friend some 6 or 7 years ago now. I let him borrow those and kind of forgot he had them until one day I wanted to play them. I remembered he had them and went over to get them. He had lost final fantasy VII and claimed resident evil zero was his. He was a good guy though so I don't think he took them on purpose, I think his memory just sucked

Re: Ever had games/console/ electronics stolen ?
^Sounds sort of like a friend of mine... I let him borrow some CIB N64 games back in the day (Majora's Mask, Star Fox 64, and Mario Golf). Never really thought about it till about a year ago and was wondering where the hell these games were. Ended up at his house one day and loaded up the games, which he claimed were his (bad memory in action). Lo and behold there were all my magnificent save files ...he couldn't argue with a file named Jordan on Majora's Mask
So those CIB games came back home with me.
And recently I have had some redeemable codes stolen. I bought the Legendary edition of Halo Reach which comes with 2 cards; checked the other day and they were gone (I hadn't redeemed them yet). There could only be 2 people that would have had the opportunity. Then one day I received an Xbox message for 80 free MS points that would expire in a week. I left the message in my inbox and was waiting for the Monday arcade sale (which was before the expiration date). I log in to check the message code and the message was gone, deleted. I only mentioned the 80 points code to 1 person so I know who it is, but he will be leaving for the military in a month or so and not going to ruin a friendship over these small things... just going to watch my stuff more carefully (seems to be Xbox items). I also let this same person borrow Conker for Xbox and I plan on getting it back before they leave

sophomore year of college i leave my ps2 and about 15 games at school over winter break. i come back 4 weeks later to find all my games gone. my ps2 was still there, however.
that fall semester was my ex-friend's last semester before he was to transfer. we ended up getting into a fight - argument, not fist fight - right before break. coincidence that my shits gone? i couldn't prove it, but i bet he was the bastard that stole them.

Re: Ever had games/console/ electronics stolen ?
Had a PSP taken from my room at my old apartment (one of the reasons I moved). I had a ground floor room, but always had a thick piece of wood barring the window so the most it could open 2-3 inches, enough to let air in and enough to keep people out.
I went to the bathroom, and heard someone run off as I opened my door again. Apparently 2-3 inches is enough for someone's arm to reach in and grab stuff on my computer desk.
Called the pawn shops, gave a brief description of my PSP, and noted that I engraved my name behind the battery cover, offered a $20 reward on it. Got a call two hours later that the guy tried to pawn it off, got my PSP back, owner of the shop wouldn't take the $20 reward from me.

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

My knowledge of the law is limited, but I'm pretty sure Pawn shops can get into trouble for receiving stolen merchandise. It was rather big of the guy not to take the $20 reward you offered though.avrame wrote:Had a PSP taken from my room at my old apartment (one of the reasons I moved). Most people I know have very little respect for other people's and their own possessions so there's only one friend I'm actually comfortable loaning games to. He has a great respect for his friends and frowns upon any disrespect.
To other people I lost the DVDs Reservoir Dogs 20th anniversary edition and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle to people who borrowed and then refused to return because they claimed they didn't remember me lending them out even though I asked for them back less than a month later.
I only lend out things I'm not terribly concerned about so if I don't get them back it's not a big deal though. I get my DVDs for a dollar or less at used book stores.

Re: Ever had games/console/ electronics stolen ?
It's partly my fault, but I had bought a PSP. I only had it for maybe a month or so before it was stolen, and it's the original model. The original model's dpad, as everyone know sucks because its not raised up enough. There was an easy fix that this guy on a forum I used to be on found out. He's the admin of those forums. He said that he would do the fix for free on anyone's PSP, long as we pay the shipping. Someone else on the forum said that he did the mod for him and everything went well, so I trusted him, so I sent it to him to get it done to mine. Never saw it again and he cut contact with me. I don't think I could have had a case against him either since there was no official document or agreement. And the thing was $200. Not worth suing someone over.
Going through deleting inactive accounts of mine as a security precaution. No hard feelings, but admins, if it is possible to delete this account, please do so. Thanks in advance!
