EXP Patch - What Is It?

Post by darthmunky »

I notice that a lot of people who upload Pokemon games say that they are EXP patched... What does that even mean? Why does the exp need to be patched?

Nintendo DS games (especially Nintendo first party titles) have anti-piracy protection to prevent them from running on flashcarts.

In the case of the recently released Pokemon Black & White, there are a number of protections in place -- one of them is that you can't gain any experience in battle. Therefore the games are patched to disable that particular protection.

Unlocked thread as the discussion of this type of thing isn't against forum rules, just the distribution of said content.

That's not sneaky. The infamous Earthbound copy-protection is sneaky.

Also, I love it when game developers do stuff like this. My favourite anti-piracy "feature" so far is the vuvuzelas when you're trying to play the DS Michael Jackson game.
