I'm sorry if I offend anybody here, it really isnt my intention but I do get sick and tired of being told that us parents are doing it wrong and we are to blame for all of societies problems blah blah blah. Especially by people who dont actually have children and dont have a desire to have them either.

What kind of parent wouldnt want to keep their children as safe as possible, or build on their self esteem, or enpower them to stick to their principle, or do our best to make sure that their childhood is better than the one that we had? No parent is perfect but I dont think that lowering standards is the way to make anything better.

The problem with porn isnt that it exihibits what most of us have a strong desire to do anyway, its the way that it presents it - like its something cheap and degrading. Adults have enough experience of the world to be able to know that it isnt always like that but I really dont think that it is the way to introduce the subject to child. I beleive that children should be taught that sex is some special and fantastic to experience.

Reading the first and last page of this thread without seeing the context of the middle pages is really, really bewildering.

Ahh. The 90's.
To quote 'The Wrestler', "The 90's fucking SUCKED"

But it all depends on your perspective. 20 years from now the kids I think are pansy ass douchebags are gonna be saying "Remember the twentyteens man, those were the days bro!"

I think the climate of fear instilled in parents really started in the 80's with the highly publicized abduction and murder of Adam Walsh. I'm 35, and distinctly remember the "It could happen to YOUR child!" mentality that took over the neighborhood parents. Unfortunately the media exploits these tragedies to make them seem commonplace, and when you see through the bullshit and realize these are rare, isolated incidents, another one occurs and the cycle of fear begins anew.

I work around kids alot at carnival/fair/party environments, and can tell you that many kids, especially boys, are being raised to be fat, spineless, worthless wastes of oxygen. The physical state of these children is pathetic. One of our attractions is a Eurobungie, which is basically a trampoline you jump on while harnessed, and it is heartbreaking to see so many kids unable to grasp the concept of JUMPING. The worst is when parents see the occasional kid who CAN do it well, then assume thier kid is as fit and coordinated, and subject them an activity beyond their physical capability. I think that the freedom my generation and previous ones had prepared us physically and mentally for life far better than current and future generations.

Yeah and I'm pretty much to blame for the clusterfuck.

So yeah, the 80's were pretty cool and the 90's were awesome. I was very sad to see that Mike Starr passed away. Alice in Chains was the very definition of the 90's for me. Wow... sad day.

Everything went to shit with the fall of Napster. That marked the beginning of the end.
