I Just Got the Original Home Console!

Post by BurningDoom »

Okay, so it's not actually a Magnovox Odyssey or even an Atari Pong. It's a knock-off. But still freaking awesome! I feel like I've acquired a key piece to my collection. It feels great. I got it for under $20, shipping included, and it includes all it's wires. The listing said it worked fine, just missing the box.

It's the Wonder Wizard:

I got my new Wonder Wizard (Pong) console today! I got it all hooked-up, but no picture. I could hear the sound coming out of the machine (speakers built-in, sound came from the console, AMAZING!). So I knew it worked. I came to the conclusion it needed a new RCA cable. Unfortunately it used a pre-Coax connection, so I was wary on if I could find one. But luckily the local RadioShack had me covered.

So I got a new wire, but it turns out I didn't need it after all. No harm done, the wire that came with it was looking pretty haggard anyways and it was only $5.49. Turns out all I had to do was shake the console a little, which I found out when I got frustrated with it and shook it in my hands, lol.

I was about to crap myself when I got it working, though. Reason being: I called my wife in to play as 2nd player so I could test it. The reset button is on the 2nd controller, so I told her to press the reset button, which I had pressed a few times already while trying to get it to work, AND SHE BROKE IT! So I stood there just looking at it, astonished for several minutes. I then broke out the screwdriver and opened her up. The plastic was broke, no easy fix. But I jimmy-rigged it back together with some twist-ties and it works again. Man, the trouble a guy has to go through to play Pong.

I admire your persistence to get Pong working. Though I grew up with Pong, I have no desire to relive those days.

there are 100's of Pong consoles out there. Some are much better than others.
It's a slipperly slope getting into this market, because there are just soooo many models.

My Dad still has his original Odyssey 2000 in the original box. The box proudly proclaims that it has FOUR games; it doesn't tell you that all four are pong.
