So this is from the Powerup Rewards program. I accumulated enough points for a prize and I chose this. If you're unfamiliar on how the points work here's the deal.
You get 20 points per dollar for buying used stuff and 10 points per dollar on new stuff. Okay. They'd rather you buy used items because they're making more money off that. I'm fine with that. Makes sense. That's what I'd do if I ran the business.
Here's my major problem with the rewards. Some of the "prizes" are unobtainable for an ordinary person. Last time I looked the prize that costs the most points is around 68,000 points. That means you'd have to spend $3,400 to get it. DOUBLE that if you strictly buy new items. Who is going to spend $6,800 on new games?
If you stay current with all the next-gen systems and games then this rewards program is probably going to work for you. However, for someone like me, who only occasionally shops there looking for older games or the obscure new titles, the reward program isn't all that useful.
And I'm using the Free card. There's one for like $15 a year. I honestly don't know the difference. You probably get a discount or more points or something, but this rewards card, for retro gamers at least, isn't worth the time. Once all the last-gen stuff is gone, I probably won't shop there until I get a 3DS. And maybe not even then.

So, Gamestop gave you a free reward for just being a customer and your bitching about it?

Isn't worth what time? Its fucking free, and takes like 2 minutes to get one. I buy at most 1 game a month from gamestop, and most of those are cheapies. I still earned enough money to get Super SFIV for almost free. Wah wah, bitch bitch, they gave me free shit
Also, the card nets you 10% off used buys, +10% when you trade in, and like 13 magazines. Goodness, that couldn't possibly be a good deal.

No, I'm not "bitching about it"; I'm just giving my honest opinion. It isn't like I'm not grateful (Pac-man is pretty awesome) I guess I just wish that the program had more to offer. There are coupons for like $5 dollars off a purchase but you have to spend at least $200 dollars to get it. Why not make it a little less? I just think maybe lowering the prices would give consumers a bit more incentive to shop there.

I wish they would just give me free games. Therefore, what they currently offer is not worth the time.

I feel bad for gamestops employees when they get to the cash register. They must feel like tools having to ask a bajillion stupid questions that they know the customer does not want.
agreed. The worst is the pre-order bullshit. Why would I want to pre-order a game that's months away? Couldn't I just come into the store and buy it when it's out? That's generally how things have worked before pre-orders. Right? Or am I missing something (besides the occassionally cool freebies).
I think pre-orders are great. I can't afford to buy all my games at $60 a pop. But the pre-order system works like layaway for those ones I just can't wait for the price to come down. You put $15 down. Then just pay $5-$20 a paycheck until the game comes out and it's completely paid for.
You better believe I'll be doing that for the Demon's Soul sequel that's also coming out on 360 (YES!!!) and ES V: Skyrim.

Can't you just save that money? Let's say a game you want comes out in 2 months. Instead of inconveniencing yourself by stopping by Game Stop every two weeks, can't you just put that money in your bank account or your sock drawer and just buy it when it comes out? It's not like they are giving you a discount by paying it off early.

What could this prize be? A car?
