This has me wondering if you guys know any great places for free tunes. I don't mean peer to peer networks or download services like rapidshare, megaupload, etc. I am wary of those things with all the spyware and malware on the net
I mean like actual sites where they have free tunes freely available for people to download off their site

There are programs you can download free that will take a music video off youtube and save it in an mp3 format.

Hmm, I missed this the first time around. Can't believe no one mentioned Archive.org! About 90% of the time what I'm listening to came from the Live Music Archive. It's all live music, taped by permission of the artist. The nice thing about that is that it selects for musicians who play different sets every night, being able to improvise is a sign of real musicianship. The downside is that a lot of the music is audience recordings, but it's easy enough to find good quality recordings by searching for "SBD" (soundboard) or picking highly rated shows.
You can also check out bt.etree.org for a slightly different selection of artists, but you'll have to torrent it. Still all by artist permission.
