Back to this thread,
Well my Wild stood put on Trading Deadline, only traded our "Borat" goalie to the Bruins for a minor league player and a prospect, not too bad. I didn't want to see the Wild trading away 1st and 2nd picks for players that don't fit in with the team.
Back to the Islanders, Gillies is a goon, make no mistake about it. I know Cal Clutterbuck is an agitator, just like Sean Avery and other "key" 3rd/4th line players, but if Gillies wants to stand up for his team, and honor "the Code", he should've drop gloves at Cal and go at it, at least that is fair game. Do I like Cooke, heck no, since I knew him when he was with the Canucks, you do have "enforcers" on the team to ensure no one takes cheap shots at your key players.
But of course this is drawing attention (albeit unwanted) about head-shots in the game.
2010~11 NHL season
Re: 2010~11 NHL season
Wow the Flyers have really gone downhill, 3 losses in a row! Just kidding, but that is what the media sounds like. I mean, 3 losses in a row after not losing 2 consecutive games since December. Everyone needs to relax. I am annoyed at the whining of Mike Richards, however. His relationship with the media always annoys me, but he recently mentioned to the media that the problems with the Flyers power play may have to do with the coaches. Even if everyone is thinking this could have something to do with it, I don't feel like it is ever a good idea to make a comment like that. My biggest concern is the effect his comments could have on the locker room. Once the Captain makes an excuse like that, why not just jump on board the excuse wagon. I see a lot of players struggling on the PP and it has nothing to do with the coaches. These guys who are struggling can just as easily blame it on the coaches now that their Captain has made the first steps.
Richards gets on my nerves sometimes. I can see him as the type of guy to start a rift in the locker room. I think he had the potential to be a great Captain, but they rushed him. They should have given him a couple more years as an Alternate before pulling the trigger. I like his grit and his style of play is awesome even if pretty inconsistent, but his personality leaves a bit to be desired. I hope his personality with his teammates is better than his personality with everyone else.

Blackhawks: eight straight wins. We go from on the playoff bubble to a top 4 seed just like that.

They are still VERY MUCH on the playoff bubble. All eight wins in a row did for them was move them from dire straights to in good contention for a playoff spot. A top 4 seed really doesn't mean much when they are essentially three/four loses away from 11th (which IS the case).YoshiEgg25 wrote:Blackhawks: eight straight wins. What do you expect from a cocky rich kid who grew up in a small, rough little town just down the road from Pronger? Yeah, he's a great player.. but the two of them are also, well, pricks.Richards gets on my nerves sometimes. I can see him as the type of guy to start a rift in the locker room. Toews has been a beast. He's been a blessing to my fantasy team.YoshiEgg25 wrote:Blackhawks: eight straight wins. We go from on the playoff bubble to a top 4 seed just like that.

I would have rather kept Sharp and Upshall (I know these trades were far apart, but they were both made to keep enough room for the two moody twins Richards and Carter). Again, I think these guys were just rushed to the head of the class too quickly. They are both great players, but their heads got too big too fast. I think Richards would have made a great captain if he served under a hard-ass like Pronger for a couple of years (or a truly great player like Kimmo). In fact, I think he has gotten marginally better since Pronger came in and shook things up.Breetai wrote:What do you expect from a cocky rich kid who grew up in a small, rough little town just down the road from Pronger? As for Pronger being a prick... yeah he is. I love him. Again, I am the one who acknowledges that all teams have their pests and their a-holes. Pronger's ability to take the focus off the rest of the team by being Pronger is great. The Flyers were also in desperate need of an intimidating blueliner before he came along. The year before we got him, I remember Kimmo getting rocked by Orpik - he left his feet and made direct contact with the head, but no charging call and this was a time before anyone cared about headshots (kind of). This resulted in a goal. We needed a guy back there to make everyone think twice about hits like that. I mean even if it's a fair hit, it still helps to have an opposing player hesitate because he knows he has to deal with Pronger. Keeps our d-men from being walked all over.

Oh, I am well aware that Pronger is amazing. His job is to be a prick (in hockey) and he does it extremely well. He was nice enough to me in real life the few times I've met him (we're from the same small town and both our dads have hung out golfing in the past. Hell, my parent's cabin is partially furnished with their old stuff), but LOTS of people really don't like the guy much. I liked him, and he's fun to watch... but good grief, what an ass on the ice! He's a total asset. Haha, what a good pun. He kicked ass in Edmonton, St. Louis, Hartford (watch old videos. He was raw, but you could see the same guy playing for sure) and also on the Petes. I didn't follow him before that.
Now, what the hell is up with the Flyers getting destroyed tonight? Did they forget they were in first place?
