MAME OS X works great

Post by Doctor Fugue »

I've never used MAME before, but I just downloaded MAME OS X (not the older MacMAME).

It's freaking awesome. I've only played a couple of games so far, but it is extremely user-friendly and runs as smooth as butter.

I hooked up my Xbox DOA4 stick and the first game I played was X-men Arcade. That game has always been one of my favorite games since I played it every day back in the early 90s. The emu even handles the 2 screen display for that game on my single monitor without a problem.

Man this is great...I should have joined the 21st century earlier. Anybody else using MAME on their Mac? Are there problems I should watch out for?

Compatibility is alittle spotty on games past 95, but other than that you should be fine.

Yep, Windows MAME is better.

I'm on a macbook pro(2.4ghz duo core 2, 4gb RAM, 256mb 8600M GT).
Games with 3d stuff are more or less 100% not to work on Mac OS(Mac OS has shitty 3d procccessing in general).

Sadly also other "newer" games like Street Fighter 3 and Killer Instinct 1 and 2 does not work on Mac OS either.
Works nice on my windows partion anyhow. ;)
Consoles:
Atari 2600, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo AES, GB, GBP, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, GBM, DS, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Sega Master System, -Megadrive, -CD, -Saturn, -Dreamcast, -GameGear.

i beg to differ about the processing of 3d in osx

OpenGL is a better api than directx by far . depending on your mac, it may be just a crappy video card .

I've only been playing vertical shmups from '92 to '02, and they all work great. No problems at all. I dig MAME OS X. Now if I could just get this stupid shit to play on my PSP.

That's great to hear...vert shooters are basically all I want to play. I can't believe I didn't try this before.

It's all about Super Spacefortress Macross and Dangun Feveron.

I hit this list hard the other night...

Whoa... Radiant Silvergun and Soukyugurentai can both be played in MAME? I never knew this. Do you know why there are no screenshots for them on the site you linked? Are they not emulated properly yet?

I looked into RS and I downloaded the ROM off Rom-World, and it didn't work. I found this thread though from another forum... http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/showthread.php?t=478668

RS and Souky work on my Windows box, but they are slow, jerky, and buggy. Emulation of the Sega Titan/STV board just really isn't up to spec, yet.
