Good job on the article as usual, Ack.
I'm not a fan of the original Xbox myself. I suppose based on reasons you outlined: I hate the controller. I hate how big and bulky and ugly the console is. I hate the aesthetic of those ugly green DVD cases. And I guess (without realizing it before) I hate the lack of Japanese titles. It's funny -- the 360 seems like a much better console to me, but I could never really say why (other than being a bit more pleasing to the eye and having smaller controllers). But now I'm realizing it's because there's a lot more Japanese support for it. It's kind of a bastion for import shmups.
At any rate, bottom line is this was an interesting article seeing as how I don't even like the subject. Haha.

Use the Controller S it's miles better (except for FPS, which I still prefer the old Duke controller). I'd actually go as far as saying it's smaller than the 360 controller. It definitely looks it.noiseredux wrote:Good job on the article as usual, Ack.

There's really no reason not to own an Xbox other than space, they're dirt cheap, can be modded easily to be re-purposed as a media centre (as well as retaining xbox functionality) and the games are cheap as hell as well. It also doesn't take long to achieve a collection of all the best games for the system either.

Almost all the best games can be played on the 360, I don't need the media center, and they are ugly as sin. No reason to get one, as far as I am concerned.Niode wrote: There's really no reason not to own an Xbox other than space, they're dirt cheap, can be modded easily to be re-purposed as a media centre (as well as retaining xbox functionality) and the games are cheap as hell as well. Maybe because the 360 has some pretty bad glitches on some good games? And not too mention you wouldn't be able to play the obscure titles.dsheinem wrote:Almost all the best games can be played on the 360, I don't need the media center, and they are ugly as sin. Meh, I'll always have room for my Xbox, then again, I have the slightly more attractive Crystal Xbox which I removed the RF shielding from and modded the optical drive to be transparent.dsheinem wrote:Almost all the best games can be played on the 360, I don't need the media center, and they are ugly as sin. "The Duke" was its name eh? My friends and I always called the first controller the Hamburger controller. The S-360 controller is definitely smaller and the best console controller for FPS's to me.
The Xbox was an okay system to me, but it's been boxed away for years and I never care to bust it out. It had some decent PC ports but I can play those games better on my PC now, and a lot of its games can be found on the PS2. The only exclusives that I REALLY wish played on the 360 that I can think of for now would be the two Otogi games, really awesome stuff. Other than that I tend to think Halo and Ninja Gaiden are the only legitimately good games that stand the test of time ... haha, oh and all the Bioware games.

I dislike the XBox as well, although I do own one. It's just ugly, and I too am bothered by the lack of Japanese titles. I have a Controller S though and it's really nice, I'd recommend it. The best thing about it is being able to mod it and swap out the HDD. Pretty neat to be able to boot any of your games straight from the HDD, and running emulators is neat.
Metal Wolf Chaos alone is enough to warrant owning one though. That game is something else, words can't do it justice. Otogi games are great too. Ninja Gaiden is nice, but the PS3 enhancement really blows it out of the water.

I don't mind the size or shape of the Xbox. I still use the big original controller. The software library is piss poor though. Worth having for a couple choice titles, but otherwise all I use it for is XBMC. I've pretty much played everything I'd want to play on it, I can't say that about any other console.

Re: Xbox 101
For a system near the bottom of my list the article was well written
