Would you like it if you are employed by someone, you do a lot of hard work, and then he says "screw it I don't feel like paying you"?jfrost wrote: Meh, I pirate, no, I STEAL, a bunch of things too. I download a lot of TV series, for example. Some movies. This self-righteous attitude on the forums is tiresome sometimes.
I do have some justifications even, but since I'm such a despicable thief, what can I say in my defense, right?
BTW, I too pirate TV shows, but only cause they are originally free to broadcast, but if I want to see it on my local TV channel I might have to wait 3 years for them to sub the current season, and since studio executives are idiots who won't allow me to see that video online, with ads on the side (so they can make some money), I'm left no choice.
But as I said, it was only I was left no choice.

Unless it's the Saturn or PC Engine. Then you need way more!MidnightRider wrote:I would say, ideally, one should have roughly 30 games, at most, per console.
That's basically it, I think. It's awesome to own a great and rare shooter like Sapphire (PC Engine), but when it costs $300, give or take, just to get a legit copy (that haven't been available in retail for over a decade and a half), there is an argument to be had for pirating it. Radiant Silvergun was also like that, but now that it's going to be available for download on modern consoles it isn't really the case anymore. Likewise with many retro games being available for digital download. This is a pretty grey area when talking about retro games.J T wrote:What I dislike is the piracy of newly released games. It hurts the developers/publishers and that's not good for the industry because there is less monetary incentive for them to do what they do and that makes for smaller budgets for the development of new titles.
When referring to modern games, it IS stealing.
I basically agree with this. Stuff like South Park, Family Guy, etc., is available to watch for free from the company's website IF you are located in America. I live in Canada and have lived in Japan. At least in Canada, South Park is available to watch on the very same networks at the very same time that they are shown in America. Yet, on the internet, I am blocked from streaming the episodes from the official site. That is a load of crap. So, I stream from "pirate sites." The company looses nothing, and I am not "discriminated" against because they country I live in didn't want to pay trademark fees or whatever it is.I too pirate TV shows, but only cause they are originally free to broadcast...
My wife liked to download episodes of The Sopranos and Desperate Housewives because, in Japan, they were usually a few months or years behind. When I lived in Korea, WWE Raw/Smackdown/PPV shows were literally months behind! Wrestlemania would be shown in summertime. Summerslam in the fall. Screw that. Is this stealing? I don't think so. They showed the PPVs on TV for free anyway.

Buy the boxsets? Sure. But that still means I have to wait a few months. In the information age, TV has failed to evolve.Limewater wrote: There's always a choice.

Re: PC Gaming Is Dying
I think what hurt PC gaming the most over the past decade has been cheap OEM graphics typically provided by Intel. To sustain a 'conventional' market on the PC game makers required of their customers to put in an extra investment in the form of a GPU add-on card that would be of little use outside gaming, so many simply opted for the console option. Intel's crap is still infesting laptops despite AMD's better offerings, but that goes to show most computers sold nowadays aren't intended for gaming. PC gaming has evolved into something profitable but the cost entailed diluting its cutting-edge status, because publishers have found other means of making profit via new business models.

Re: PC Gaming Is Dying
In my opinion, there are two platforms that have mastered digital distribution: Smartphones and Computers. Computer [notice I didn't say PC; I still play a bunch of awesome Linux games] gaming will never die, because people will always own computers. Consoles and handhelds still have a ways to go. I think PSN is the closest consoles have come to matching this success; occasional content sales and ports being encouraged, etc. Still, it isn't nearly as sophisticated as the latter systems.

That's why I said ideally, there will be exceptions, dependent on the individual. If I was to rebuild an NES collection on my current, limited tastes of gaming, it'd probably still be closer to 50 games, but it's the NES.Breetai wrote:Unless it's the Saturn or PC Engine. i downloaded someone's tv out of their living room yesterday. then i went to a gas station and pirated some money at gunpoint out of the cash register. after that i found a torrent for some candy and the only user in the swarm was a baby, but i went ahead and leeched anyway.
what a great day i had.
