While it's plain obvious that I love the GameCube, I have to agree. I admit I'm not really into fighting games but from what I've played the Saturn is the home console king as far as standard controllers go.
Soul Calibur II plays suprisingly well with the GC controller.

games like say, Capcom vs SNK 2 however... they're practically unplayable.

Too true, I hated Capcom vs SNK on it so much... that must be why!

The Nintendo 64 controller is still my favorite among the 3D-based consoles.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

Personally, I don't think there is ANYTHING special about Nintendo controllers since the SNES, not counting the Wii as that is a completely different thing

Playstation controllers have worked for me just fine on pretty much any genre. They're perfect. Though I would give it to Microsoft for the Xbox S controller or 360 controller for being a bit better for shooters and the Saturn 6 button for having an edge for fighters

The Dreamcast controller was pure shit, despite it being a great console

Well to me, the only fighting games worth playing on the GC anyway are Soul Calibur II and Super Smash Bros, Melee.

Yeah but get a stick, a Hori GBA pad, or a SNES>GCN adapter and you have the best version of those games from all three systems.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Whoa, that ended up being a lot longer than I intended.
You have perfectly articulated every problem I have with the GCN controller, which I also have serious problems with and, like you, only slightly prefer over the inferior DC controller. At least with the GCN Nintendo improved over the horrible N64 controller, though.

Also, anyone arguing that the GCN controller is good for fighting games is clearly hanging out with Charlie Sheen too much.
Before you go into rage mode, note that I said 3D Fighters. There is definitely a difference.

Anyway, screw all of you. I think the Gamecube controller is the greatest controller Nintendo has ever made. I think a person's controller preference, if not affected by console bias (which I most certainly am), is based on hand size and genre preference. If you like 2D fighters, then of course you are going to love the Saturn controller. If you like FPSs, then of course you are going to love a keyboard and mouse. If you like puppies and sunshine and happiness, then of course you are going to love the Gamecube controller.

I also love the GC controller but I still like SNES the best... I love 2D fighters but hate the saturn controller. I like FPS's but despise using a mouse and keyboard.

Dogs are ok, but I'm a pale humorless dick.

Must be why I don't like the GC controller much. I'd rank it at 3rd best Nintendo controller.

That's because they're the only fighting games that work with that controller.
