Downloading Asian Music
Re: Downloading Asian Music
Great suggestions for the metal bands and I will def check out that that tokyotosho site you guys recommended. I see I am not the only one who has run into this problem, I agree about wishing I could support the artists and the genre by purchasing this stuff, but I just can't afford the prices they charge.
Re: Downloading Asian Music
I find a reasonable solution to be to only buy new releases. I own quite a few Japanese albums, but it's pretty infeasible to buy entire backlogs of bands when you first discover them. As other posters mentioned, the cost of media is much higher in Japan.
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ is a good place to buy and support Japanese music. Their prices are actual retail, and they offer cash incentives if you continually purchase from them, which leads to some decent savings if you plan on regularly buying music. Play-Asia also has reasonable prices on for Japanese CDs.

You should search for any artists you're interested in just in case they have US distribution. You might be surprised.

Oh I agree, I actually own a lot already, but the tool I used to get them in the past no longer exists. So I a looking for a new way of obtaining Asian music. I did get some tonight - as someone else suggested, I basically put all of the bands I like into iTunes and three came up. I plan to try this more as I get more money. Getting three L'Arc albums for $10 each was pretty great. They also have quite a bit of The Pillows's stuff. I was able to get their three newest albums that I was missing. That band releases more music than any band I know. I also downloaded a Flow album and all the Monoral albums for my Mom (yes she's cool like that). I haven't heard of them, but I am excited to try a couple of new bands out. I can't wait to check out some of the suggestions you guys made.brunoafh wrote:I find a reasonable solution to be to only buy new releases. Been checking out some of the metal bands you guys mentioned and just wanted to say thanks again. Been really enjoying a couple of the thrash bands and the Heavy stuff from Sex Machinegun's. Also, listening to Animetal cover various things like the Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball theme songs is quickly becoming a guilty pleasure.

I haven't listened to these guys in a few years, I think I'll give them a listen to this afternoon again. Good stuff.benderx wrote:Guitar Wolf

Wow, surprised Maximum The Hormone hasn't been suggested yet. Love that band.

If you like X-Japan, Hide is great too. His live band also played on his last album too, Spread Beaver.
