I don't think you can turn off the motion controls. It's the motion based version. And you definitely can't use a GameCube or classic controller.darthmunky wrote:I thought you can turn motion controls off on the Wii version... Or maybe it's just the motion aiming you can turn off.

Agreed on RE4 for PS2. I'll take a drop in graphics for more game features. As a retro-gamer, graphics aren't the #1 concern for me.Gamerforlife wrote:
Also, did someone call RE 4 on the PS 2 a disaster? That seems unreasonably harsh. I actually thought it was a good port, far better than it had any right to be. That new gunboat section in Ada's adventure was badass too. The game lost a little on visuals, but the game still looked great and added widescreen. Supposedly, there are fewer enemies in some spots but overall the game seemed like pretty much the same experience from when I played it on the Gamecube, and I played the GC version like three times. The only difference that stood out to me was the slight drop in visuals, but still an amazing looking game on the PS 2.
The PS 2 version is a solid alternative to the GC original that maintains most of the game's look and feel. I'd actually recommend it for a first timer over the Wii port only because it sounds like the Wii controls make that version of the game easier than it was intended to be and god knows people ALREADY complain about RE 4 and 5 being too easy compared to the old style

The GC had adapters and 3rd party controllers that looked like the PS controller, but I really liked the GC controller for Prince of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil, NBA Live...lisalover1 wrote:The PS2 controller ... is okay at everything, but excels in nothing.irixith wrote:For multi-platform stuff, I'd go PS2 every time, for one simple reason. The controller!
The PS2 controller is great for games that require the use of four triggers (2D fighters) or certain platformers (Mega Man classic... though the X games work fairly well with the GC controller).
I will go with AppleQueso on this one:

Damn youuuu!)AppleQueso wrote:General rule of thumb for multiplats that gen is that xbox > gamecube > ps2... Gamecube iirc had the best console version of Beyond Good and Evil.

I still think that the Gamecube's analog stick is perfect for 3D fighters because of its octagonal shape, making it easier to do combos more precisely. In fact, it is, in my opinion, the best analog stick you can get for fighting games.

Re: Multi-platform Games That Were Better On GameCube?
The OP kinda reminds me of the PS3/360 rule, if it was the lead development platform, then yes. If it was ported or originally on PS2 or Xbox, then no.
True Crime was awfully glitchy on the Cube (then again I didn't play it on XB or PS2, it could be just as bad) like just driving on the street somewhere and suddenly falling through the asphalt and crashing the game, or crashing your car while slow-mo shooting and crashing the game etc.
Controller-wise, when I held it first at E3 it felt like it was tailored to fit my hands or almost like I wasn't holding anything at all. After that, the PS2 controller felt like I had to hold it more than before. Then again I don't have a problem with the PS controller like I do with the Xbox (the triggers tire out my fingers). But the cube controller is great with the exception of that little purple bastard on the shoulder - it just feels forced and out of place. Everything on the controller I can hit without even thinking but that purple one I still have to force.

You have perfectly articulated every problem I have with the GCN controller, which I also have serious problems with and, like you, only slightly prefer over the inferior DC controller. At least with the GCN Nintendo improved over the horrible N64 controller, though.irixith wrote:

Whoa, that ended up being a lot longer than I intended.
Also, anyone arguing that the GCN controller is good for fighting games is clearly hanging out with Charlie Sheen too much.

I know we're talking about the games that were better on the 'cube but a game that should be avoided is Hitman 2. Controls were kinda touchy (I never felt like I was in control of the character) and I experienced some graphical problems. And get this, it froze on me. I've never had a GameCube game freeze on me until I played that game. It only happened once and I don't think it was due to the amount of npc's on screen. It was just random really.
Get it on ps2 in that Hitman Trilogy if you want to play it and avoid that mediocre port.

While it's plain obvious that I love the GameCube, I have to agree. I admit I'm not really into fighting games but from what I've played the Saturn is the home console king as far as standard controllers go.dsheinem wrote:Also, anyone arguing that the GCN controller is good for fighting games is clearly hanging out with Charlie Sheen too much.
