Usually a game would just come up as an audio CD if burned incorrectly, so I have no idea what happened. Luckily used Dreamcasts are cheap, so I just bought another for $25.
you sir are very incorrect. a laser can NOT adjust power to itself, only try harder to focus. there is always a small potentiometer that must be manually adjusted to increase/decrease power. you cannot burn the laser out by using a bad CD
need console mods or repairs? check my thread here:

I was just stating the fact that a burned game can cause damage to the console itself, as the topic creator seemed to be worried about. The burned game that killed my Dreamcast made the sound of when a laser is trying to read a disc, only far more rapidly and a clicking sound ensued. I wasn't arguing a technicality, just sharing a cautionary tale.

my friend ruined 2 dreamcasts using the same stack of burned games (scratched all to hell), even though he added to the stack the second time around (more +4X games), he ended up giving those to me, that's why i have 3 dc's in the pic i fixed them both. Laser tweaked one and replaced the GD-ROM on the other.
